Had a weeks holiday last week and had planned for a while to go back down to Devon to pick the mk2 up and see the family.. By the day before we planned to head off back the 106 was still not working properly, thanks to a duff ecu Anyway.. a quick ebay session the night before and i had won a rough 1.6 GTI for the sum of 390 notes... Picked it up the next day and drove it back to Devon.. Plan is to tidy it up, run it for a few months then sell it on..
The drive back revealed the usual 205 problems.... no interior fan, wobbly gear shift, rubbish idle blah blah... As soon as i got it back (with the help of my GF assistant) it was attacked........
when picked up... its not lowered, its full of parts like a scrap 1.9 engine g.boxes etc....
Scabby engine bay
Mouldy smelly front carpet
mouldy smelly oil stained rear footwells
a 2.5 ft tall person (GF's little sis)
Interior out, usual 205 prob of grotty rear footwell
Rear footwell
Bigger hole!! but good metal
New metal! and some nice rust proof paint
Carpet cleaning montage..
Parts drying..
Sadie hard at work..
Red again!!!!
Seats in..
Centre console all clean
Now the interior was all shiney clean and more importantly smelling nice it was time to sort out the wobbly gear shift..
which involved doing this to the standard linkage
then welding it back together, ended up like below... notce the different lengths compared to the standard one..
modded gear linkage
This was put back on the car and now the gears are nice and close
Next the throttle body was all cleaned out and the rest of the induction piping. this sorted the idling and running.. Also got rid of the crappy halfrauds special mushroom airfilter and stuck a spare K&N on.. Standard airbox etc will be going back on when i change the engine so it all looks mint an standard.
engine bay - soon to be cleaned!!
gave the outside a lttle wash and a few coats of back to black..
cleaned exterior
next we drove it back from Devon in it with no probs...
Today I have popped the wheels off which will be painted some time next week, were going to be silver but now decided white! I threw the rallye wheels on it while i do the others, think it looks awesome:
With rallye steelies
Over the next month I will be lowering it, welding a few more patches, Minting the engine bay and tidying the exterior.. Then I have a 1.9 lump to put in it to make it more fun then it will be for sale! Hopefully saved this 205 from being run into the ground and most likely being scrapped at its next MOT!
what it will look like lowered on the white wheels...
so, to come:
Engine change 1.9 on 1.6 box
Engine bay cleanup
Some welding
Lowering - expecting beam rebuild
Exterior spruce up
Wheel painting
General "minting"
Will keep this updated as i get on with it..
Cheers
Ed
