I guess you're all grown tired of Golfs now, Everyone seems to have them these days .
Still, I've always wanted a mk2 Golf since I was a wee lad (And also really wanted a mk1 Golf. That time will come I guess)
I made a post before, but I was a lazy ass and just linked my cardomain profile.
This will be my running thread for updates on my project.
Lets start with some info.....
This is my first project, never properly owned a car before, although I was given a 626 but after insurance quotes for it I thought best not to keep it, I didn't sell the car as I was planning to end up doing it up and then having a runabout for a year or more till I could afford to insure it.
Well a friend of mine's dad was selling a mk2 Golf, ran with only a few niggles, with MOT and Tax, for the wholesome sum of 'undred-n-fiddy punds.
In a mad dash to get the Golf home and on my driveway, I got the Mazda scrapped for £60, as it had been SORN'd since 04, and only turned on a few times to move it around the driveway etc, so with space on the driveway and a fistful of queens I was ready for the Golf. My brother and I checked it out, seemed all good so drove it home.
On the way home we found it had a few faults, nothing that couldn't easily be ironed out. The biggest being the gearstick had dropped down, allowing it to always easily go into reverse instead of first.
No biggy, it's going to be sitting on the driveway for ages anyway, so I'd leave that till last. Along with that, we found the clutch was sitting high, and the tracking was out.
After closer inspection we found the thermostat had gone, and found some nice creamy stuff in the engine. As the car hadn't really been driven much in the last year and was a bit soggy we've taken it as just condensation. Although once a new thermostat is fitted we can see if the engine is overheating and if it's the head gasket.
The airbox also has no filter in, so goodness knows what curse word has been sucked into the engine, but it's something else that needs to be looked at.
The water tank had no water in it but after a top up, the water doesn't seem to have gone anywhere, even after having the engine on for a few minutes a couple of times a week. I think the last owner (The lady before my mates dad) just didn't know much about cars (?).
Anyway.... the car when bought had a few patches of rust, a crumpled front bumper, a cracked grill, and a water leak... which had ruined my seats and door cards.
So since then, the interior has been stripped bare and chucked away, the front has all been taken off so I can replace it all, and rear bumper taken off.
I also removed the plastic arch and door trim as I wasn't getting any decent vibes off them, so they had to go.
This is what my car looks like currently, as it stands on my driveway...
The boot carpet is still there with all my interior bits I still have as I am not allowed to keep any parts in doors, and the garage is full up with boxes as we only recently moved in. (the parts in the boot were stripped out of a GTI, I had a moment where I wanted a black interior, which I don't want anymore...) I guess I need to find a trade to do somewhere...
When I got the gti interior bits, I also got a lovely deal on 5 P Slot wheels with tyres. 4 of them had tyres which had hardly ever been used and still have full tread, and the 5th one was on a tyre which has never kissed tarmac before... all for the kind sum of £75 (including 4 center caps!). I also got a rear GTI bumper, which I got while in my 'I want a GTI' phase, and that bumper had never even been put in a Golf before, just got a couple of scuff marks and some rust on it, but never been used.
So anyway... here is the Golf when I got it...
After clearing out the crazy selection of curse word in the boot, I was left with this..
After cleaning all that out, I had a nice neat boot, which was soon to be full of curse word when the car was stripped..
I took off the curse word seat covers (ewwwwwww) and fitted my uber budget head unit in...
Sorry for the odd order that was in, but I will update you as I go along...
For now here is some inspiration of what I plan to do.. (Although some of you can guess from my topics and posts )
