Hi, after much faffing about, I finally got myself a 205gti, 1.9. It was bought as spares/repair, as it had no MOT, but that was a triviality and it is now back in business. It's had most mods done to it and that I would do anyway, so my concern is ridding it of its chavness. Someone has painted all the red stripes black, aswell as the badges, and had fitted silver "racing" wiper blades which I got rid of immediately! I have also swapped the white rear light lenses for some proper phase 1 lenses. The car is now MOTd and serviced and going to be used while I tidy up some other bits. Nice white rear lenses about to go on ebay, unless anyone wants them from here! I'll try and update more as I improve things, but I'm a lazy git and might not. Cheers, Antony

Another 205 Gti!! We're slowly taking over! Liking this, and I'm thinking of going for the black trim pieces on mine! Whereabouts are, might be up for a red trim swap??

One of the previous owners painted the trim inserts black on a 309 GTI I had a while ago: Looked bloody awful IMO So I sympathetically "restored it" with a cloth and some thinners Oh and "hi" from another 205 owner

The back needs raising up a spline I would say, but other than that... spot on! Is it worrying that I'm tempted to make you an offer on those lenses?

Nice,
might not be a bad idea to find an OE airbox or moving the filter to behind the headlamp. Are you the member of psooc or the previous owner?

Thanks for your replies. I will attack the blacked out trim with some thinners, to restore the sprit of gti!
The rear is too low, so will be raised a few mm when I get a chance and yes, the Ramair filter will be gulping loads of hot air from the manifold, so needs to be moved to the front of the car. All on the to do list!
Adam, you are welcome to make an offer on the lenses. You are clearly a man of taste and discretion.
I'll find out the postage costs this coming week.
Simes, the previous owner was clearly a vocal member of the psooc. I have tried to locate him, to no avail.
Cheers,
Antony

I was thinking white lenses, white wheels, white roundels etc.. hmmm. If you let me know the postage costs I'll see My RG came with PSOOC stickers exactly the same as yours in the same place!

OK, here is an update on my car. Its running much better, I had the rear beam raised, recovered almost all the red stripes and had some fun with the front number plate. Honest opinions please...

The back needs raising up a spline I would say, but other than that... spot on! Is it worrying that I'm tempted to make you an offer on those lenses? Each spline on the rear bars lowers a 205....how far?? Just curious, like....

It depends on which splines are used. The splines on a 205 rear torsion bar aren't equally spaced and this is why it isn't advised to lower by the "spline method". You might lower one side more than the other, which was the case with my car. It was raised the proper way, by removing the torsion bars, setting the trailing arm to the desired height and then re-inserting the torsion bars, repeatedly until the splines line up.
Edcobb, I've only washed mine, but the paint quality is incredibly good for a 20yo car. It affirms the urban myth that early 205s have much better paint than the 90/91 models, because as the car became so popular, the factory had trouble keeping up with demand so to speed up production, they skimped in the paint shop.
If only the early ones were fully galvanised...

Looks a lot better now, good work. Not sure on the black/chrome number plate. I'd get a standard on slightly trimmed to fit inside the original numberplate slot on the front bumper if I were you!
