nice car your starting off almost as I did with my mk3 it was a 1.6 3 speed auto with a lamp post dent on the rear lol anyway you will find you get terrible mpg with the auto box also it proberbly has a small carb and 1.4 spec exhaust system fitted this might sound silly but I converted mine to manual fitted a twin choke weber carb and a 4-2-1 ashley manifold and exhaust system and found I could do 17 second quater miles I had a top speed over 130mph and got a easy 80 miles extra out of a tank of fuel look up my car thread its lost on the site somewhere if you need any advice just drop me a pm ive had to many mk4's Thanks, the manual conversion is going to be the first technical thing to happen, though gotta locate the bits n bobs first. - Also, thanks to everyone else for the comments, and as much as I like Ronal Turbos on the right car, I'm not entirely convinced this is the right car for them. its not a hard job really to be honest I did mine on the drive with not alot of tools it took 2 half days to chenge all the gearbox and get gear linkage setup and onother 2 days of f'ing on fitting the clutch pedal unless you plan to remove the dash you need 3 left hands 2 broken wrists and the ability to dis locate your shoulders lol off the top of my head the things you need are gearbox and mounts gear selector clutch pedal and bar it joins onto the brake pedal cluch pedal rachet pawl(worth buying a new one only a tenner at most) clutch and flywheel and possibly one of the driveshafts had a different spline but I forget which one and theres a switch on the auto box thats activated by the cable simpily click it into neutral and forget about it don't mess with wiring oh and a link to my car thread retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1132083317&page=1

Thanks for that Topghia, is pretty helpful. Loving your mk3 project.. not too shoddy at all - thinking it might be worth seeing if I can locate an LSD box from the look of your thread, as I intend to squeeze a fair bit out of it until I have time/money to do a possible engine swap.

Gmax springs are on the way Now I'm officially moneyless til the 15th, lol. Am I right in thinking I can use either the s1 or s2 box in a mk4, but you can only use the s1 in a mk3?

S'funny how these all seem to have disappeared all of a sudden. Yours looks nice and clean. Heres a pic of my old 5 door diesel from around 10 years ago - which may (or may not!) serve as some kind of inspiration!

I do approve of these, and if space etc were not the main issue, I would have one of them too.

This is a bit of a sleeper Love the roofrack idea grizz: Yeah, tis a bit of a squeeze in the back.. think they LOOK more roomy than they actually are. @imperial: That looks really sweet, 5 spokes are my rim of choice for mine unless I say with manufacturer wheels - though I'm thinking something chunkier like the ones on the Corsair on the latest retro ford mag. Quite likely to stick to ford wheels though. The painted mirrors on yours do seem to make quite a difference by the look of it. I heartily approve Plans announced!..ish[/u] Think I've settled on some plans for the short term now. They're a lot lless grand than what I had in mind when I bought it, but I need to be practical for now, as I have nothing else to drive around while it's off the road -so want as little downtime as possible. [glow=red,2,300]The big plans WILL still happen, but not this year.[/glow]According to Carfolio the top gear/final drive ratios on the 1.6's and Diesels are the same - seems odd, shall check it out, so am getting a 5spd diesel box in there (courtesy of Langers - the legend Going to swap out the carb for a decent weber, and the entire exhaust system for - well, I'm not sure what for yet - thinking of going to Powerflow for it, but that's not a very DIY thing to do, and having looked at what you lot have done, feels almost like cheating Maaaybe a Kent cam kit for 15 extra horsies, but I think I wanna keep it cheapish. RS Turbo Recaro interiors are fairly expensive currently, but that's what I want, so will be keeping an eye on those. For the time being I have ordered a GMAX spring set: R30mm F40mm, and a K&N bolt on to keep me going while I save -the order for these, however, is still being fyked up by POTN... bar stewards. Haven't decided on wheels still yet, so MORE suggestions would still be appreciated. Oh, and took it out for a drive yesterday - handbrake works, and the independant suspension allows for some lift-off oversteer, won't be doing that too often though, poor things older than my girlfriend for crying out loud. More pics on the way, and I've probably forgotten to write some of the plans, so expect some edits later First edit: Forgot to mention the obligatory spotlights

Love these mk4 estates! I had a 2-door in red and it was brilliant, i'd have another in a heartbeat Like your plans, sounds like you've got it sussed! Should have a well handling, quicker car by the time you've finished, and recaros will make the world of difference to the driving experience! Wheel suggestions- Hmmm, it's a tough one. I do like series 2 RS turbo wheels on these but it's been done quite a bit. Escort cosworth wheels always look great aswell but they aren't all that cheap Will have a think and see if I can suggest something different!

Don't know about driving around with peugeot badges on my car though xD Theres some deep dish 5 spokes listed as GTi wheels on ebay though, so going to keep an eye on those too. They're not very obvious to be honest, so might go quite cheap - and if they don't suit then I've lost nothing.

if it were mine then id be using this pic for inspiration i know they're getting a bit common now (on here at least) but banded steelies look far too good on silver cars imo, itd just have to be done if it was one of my road ornaments

You've inspired me! ... Don't know about driving around with peugeot badges on my car though xD Leave the centre caps off then, or find some plain or Ford ones. Failing that smooth the Peugeot centre caps. I reckon most people will know they are Pug 1.9 wheels ;D
