I thought what better way to introduce myself than to start by showing off 1 of my cars! So here it is. Its a 1987 Opel manta GT hatchback. I bought it just over a year ago to fund another manta for parts. Turned out this one was solid as a rock (unusual for a manta) so it had my first mantas engine chucked in. The engine is an 1800 OHC on weber carbs. I saved it from a lad that had thrown the original 1.8 away and fitted a 2.0 redtop. He then decided to put that redtop in a chevette so i bought it like this  It already had carlton 2.2 disks and vectra calipers fitted along with -35mm lowering springs and spax front shocks. Also fitted were GTE front recaro seats. Practically everything inside was bear and just thrown in the boot. I fitted a complete new wiring loom and built it up to how it is now.  I did have 2 at one point but the silver one was sold to a good friend of mine.  And now it looks like this! Its MOT'd and used to have tax but i had to cash that in when the engine went bang. Now I have to sort out a starter fault and get it resprayed!!  Steve |

It is a mk3 golf GTi splitter, but ive taken it off now as i don't think it suits from the side.  |

I cant tell you much as i didnt do it myself. However if you want further info I'l compare it to a standard set up i have. I know that the pads sit slightly over the disks but not by much |

Well, I'm at a loose end with this car. It just wont start..... Its an electrical fault somewhere.
Thing is when i turn the key the starter just clicks. Now theres an earth strap from engine mount to chassis, and battery negative to body which are both new.
If I connect a jump lead from engine to negative on the battery it will turn over. But no matter what else or where else i earth it wont work.
Anyone know what it could be?

Surely its just one of your earth wires taking the pizz, most likley your engine mount to chassis one?
The jump lead trick appears to confirm that.
Lovely Manta by the way. Glad you got rid of that splitter, it looked BAD!

Yeah I'm still up for HHH this year, which is why i need to get an engine running asap. Either that or I'm dropping a redtop in it!
I'm going to overhaul every electrical connection and contact point i can think of to get it to turn over.
The splitter didnt suit because it doesnt go right round. its off a mk3 golf gti by the way!

Just had this motor painted!! All preped by a good friend of mine. Picked it up from the paint shop today and banged all the bits back on.  Today!  Well chuffed. |

Yes i ripped the engine out again to do a top end rebuild. Had problems with the earth, I ran a new earth from the anti rollbar to the engine and it worked! So far so good.
