Whoah, steady there buyers! ;D
I'm merely contemplating weather or not i should don my brave pants and hope it works, or assume that it's just going to be a big money pit.
Hmmmmm.....
Big german car? Money pit? NEVAR!

Remove all relays one by one, prise caps off and carefully re solder any/all the large joints that have gone "dry" or cracked, then restart the wiring diagnosis. This approach has cured several mid eighties German/Swedish/French barges of mine from faults ranging from starting/ running poor and generally being intermittently cr*p! It's even cured niggly faults like puddle lights in-op, electric windows not working and cruise control issues. Best of all the cost is 100% free if you can blag a soldering iron

As it happens, I think I've got a fuel pump relay (off a 500SE) in my garage - you're welcome to borrow it and then if it cures your problem you can purchase it off me for £15!
Cheers, Martin

Did you try bridging the terminals like was done on TCC's immobiliser on his 500 SEC? Same immob by the looks of it, and the fix is virtually free, or less than a quid if you need to get some connectors.

Come on man, don't give up on it. Just think of pimping about in that big leather german armchair that is the drivers seat. With a proposterous ammount of torque under your right foot.
Now get to it!

I'm not saying I'm Batman, but have you ever seen me and Batman in the same room together?.........
And no, I'm not Ben Affleck!

Brilliant! Utterly brilliant!
Can you believe, the curse word actually works. I've even had a little drive in it just now, and i can report that all is well in my world.
The alarm has been bypassed, a new battery has been fitted and the fuel pump relay has been temporarily bypassed (in order to prime the pump you have to have the sidelights on, this leaves the pump running permanently) which is okay as it has at least got it rolling. I'l still need to get a relay though.
It's bloody quiet too, and smooth. Reverse is a little slow to engage, but it does engage. All the electrics work too, all bar the central locking and the rear blind. The blind makes noise though, so it must be loose connection or linkage somewhere. As for the C/L, i assume it's a fuse.
Annoyingly the ABS light is on, as is the ASR light. I don't like lights. That upsets me.
The main thing is that it bloody well runs, goes stops and starts.
Next stop, MOT i guess! Well, once i've turned those lights off that is.

Ah, jolly good.
C/L can be a pain in the bum on those - all done by vacuum with a pump encased in rubber in the spare wheel well - good luck with that one, but that's a post MOT problem...
It's got ASR? A rare option. Well you can throw that in the bin - what's the point in a v8 if you can't leave black elevens on the tarmac?!
ABS faults on those are usually just dirty (or broken sensors). They have one on each front wheel and one on the diff.
Other than that, the only thing they usually fail MOT on is front ball joints and wibblepoo handbrakes - usually fixed by adjusting the little drum inside the rear disc.
Slow reverse is probably low grearbox oil. Get up to temperature and check dipstick at back left of engine bay (have to rotate clip to remove)

Oh, and you can now change your avatar text! LOL, It's not a good'un yet! I figured the gearbox oil would be naff though, but auto 'boxes are newish territory to me. As for the CL, i can cope without it. As with ASR, so should i just remove the fuse to knock out the light or is it tied into other things? I'll also whip the rims off at the weekend too, see what the deal is with the ABS light. Chris
