About a year a go I bought a Midas 2+2 (Cortez) on a bit of a whim from the findit website: Although it has been on the road in the past the build is not the best to put it kindly. It has been built from a 1.1C basic metro donor that had 125000 on the clock . That and the trim quality was dreadful, half the bits aren't bolted on properly and finally the windows are stuck in with bathroom sealant So it's sat at the bottom of the garage all of last year while I looked for a suitable donor to use to rebuild it. Every so often I'd drive it out to remind myself how odd it looks ;D Anyway I've finally sourced a low mileage Metro GTi donor car via Metropower and SWMBO even went to Grimsby to pick it up for me. It seems a shame to break the car, but it's pretty rusry and I suspect there isn't much of either sill left under the plastic trim: A bit of a poke at some bubbling rust had a hole appearing Anyway I'll update this as I destroy the Metro and get the Midas built. I'd like to have it finished before the end of the year, but I want to get the Scimitar GTE done first before much happens with this project.

Metro will make a fair whack in the parts you don't need. So are you sticking the K-series into the Midas? Cool!

Yes, the main reason I spent so long looking for a low mileage GTi Metro was for the 1400 16V K-series engine. This one is just a SPi, but I can always upgrade to MPi at a later date. It does have a longlife stainless exhaust and a nice interior I can use too.

WhoTF goes to the expense of buying and building a Midas, then uses a freakin worn out 1.1 metro for the engine? Give me strength. Good to hear its in the hands of someone who's got a clue.

Cool. Your good lady made it back then I take it ? Yup, she really liked driving the Metro, in fact she wanted me to put it through a MOT so she could use it untill I needed it for the Midas. She changed her mind when I started poking holes through the bodywork ;D WhoTF goes to the expense of buying and building a Midas, then uses a freakin worn out 1.1 metro for the engine? Give me strength. Good to hear its in the hands of someone who's got a clue. The same person who thinks silicone bathroom sealant can be used to stick the windows in, the wiper motor only needs 1 bolt to hold it on, the dashboard doesn't really need screwing down and cable ties are fine for holding the radiator in The list of bodges goes on, so I think the safest bet is to strip the Midas to the shell and start again.

It's worth noting that the spi metro gti had a low port head (I think) so if you were to change to mpi at a later date it'd be worth swapping for the later high port head too.
Use the anti-roll bars from the gti too.

Really liking the look of these cars. It'll fly with that engine in but why not go the whole hog and fit the 1.8? Lotus beater for sure. In fact I might just have to look for one myself!!!

The 1.8 is always an option for the future, but for now I really just want to get it built to a good standard and get a MOT on it. I'll see how it drives with the 1.4 and then make a decision later. That and it will be in the cheaper tax bracket with a 1.4

my white metro was a 1.1c aswell which was the most basic entry level car they did. Some even had 4 speed box's like mine. ad to 1.8 it! For the extra £70 road tax and the insurance wasn't that much more go 1800, I have never regreted do it for a second and the smile factor is worth it all day long. Plus the 1.8 engine use no more petrol than the smaller CC metros. My 1.8 is better than my 1.1 carb engine it replaced. I can see your is much smaller than a Metro (Rear number plate lip still used I spy) and must be lighter. Your make a weapon with a 1800 in there so has to be done!
If you don't use the GTi shell stick it on ebay engineless as someone could put a pigger CC engine back in as the GTi shells are like for having from damp flats welded in and the GTi body kit.
