are you sure thats a 63? I'm fast becoming a series landy anorak, and it seems yours has loads of 'late' bits('70-on), where our '66 has early- handbrake, door hinges, mirrors, sills, grille, wings, bonnet.
the military where in the habit of extensive rebuilds though!!

Yeah...pen holders...luxury at it's best!
Deffo a 63...it has Series 3 wings/doors/mirrors/lights/wipers and prob a few other bits. Been converted to normal earth (rather than positive earth). Unfortunately does not have the military spare fuel tank, but has the outriggers and will have one before we set off.
There is a fair amount do to before Red (his name, of course) is ready for the desert, but will get there eventually!

If you are serious about it then give me a shout as we are looking for other *right* teams (already have another, 1960 Land Rover coming as another team) Between us we have quite a lot of bodging and Land Rover knowledge (well, my stepdad does) but a few more teams would be quite cool.
Briefly, this one will be...drive down to the south of Spain, cross over into Morocco, then across the Sahara desert...Libya, Algeria and prob a few others and then over to Egypt. Then Cross over to Greece and then back round the Eastern side of Europe. We aim to do it in 4 weeks which will be a challenge in itself!

My fiance doesn't appreciate it too much either to be honest! The Landie cost £500 and going in Feb 08 so plenty of time to prepare it (doesn't need too much really)

Sorry for sounding a plank, your Landy has series 3 features but it also has a series 3 registration ( 1973 ). Did the DVLA not issue age related plates back then, like they do now? Very nice Landy, by the way, had a SWB 1966 model many moons ago, great fun!

before I read the rest of the text I just saw the front and said "series 3 wings" lol common modification though for better lights really, although some people also leave in the originals and go quad-light on em. I had a '69 series IIa as my first car, a 2 1/4 petrol SWB (the '69's DID have lights in the wings as standard from the factory though). It's amazing how many people mistake them for series III's. Looks like a lovely one though, have fun with her. You've made me all nostalgic here! *sniff* Kirsty ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Aww ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I think everyone should own a Series Landie at some point...even if just to appreciate that driving close to the back of one will *not* make them go any faster! My mum has a Series 2 1960 and really there is not much difference in the lighting wether they are on the wings or in the grill. Will be replacing the standard sealed units (not so fun if a bulb goes) for brighter Halogen ones anyway...will also have a roof bar with 4 spots, and probably 2 more on the bumper. My mums Series 2: ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/alex1981/Cars/fred.jpg)

I used to have a 2a truck cab on a H plate and the last of the 2a's had series 3 wings like mine.I fitted rover 100/metro seats in mine, loved it to bits.I used to unbolt the whole roof in the summer and drive it like that.I like the idea of that trip but 4 weeks is a long time, sounds like fun though. And brave in a car that old, good luck to ya. ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Cheers Lordyoung! Roof off sounds like fun ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The cars of choice for the Sahara are LWB diesels, wideish track with relative comfort (i.e landcruiser). We were tempted to take the Range Rovers, but that would have made it too easy!

bah rangerovers - rustbuckets lol ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) lordyoung - my IIA was an H reg too - pretty rare nowadays as they were only made that way for a relativley short space of time. I have only ever ONCE seen another one like mine, which is in a local village, but the owner won't sell ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) At least I've made sure they know NEVER to scrap it, no matter what happens as it's just too rare to loose. Luckily they know roughly how special theirs is. I used to get stopped by complete strangers (once at a busy roundabout) asking about my Landy and asking me if I knew how rare it was lol. Kirsty

Ah, I do love the Range Rovers too, especially for the noise of the V8. Stepdads project one is pretty awesome...sports exhaust, roof lights, 3" lift, poly bushes all round, disclocation cones, etc ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Land Rovers rust just as much lol...there is goign to be much poking, grinding and welding before the MOT!
