Today I had a look round the accident damaged Scimitar GTE that I won on eBay a week or so ago. I got it started and moved it so that the damaged rear end is under the car port (while still leaving room for my Scimitar SST under there).
A check over the car reveals good and bad things. The previous owner has kindly labeled the engine to inform the buyer that unleaded heads have been fitted to the Essex V6. It started up once I had the jump pack on it and the engine sounds nice and smooth with no odd rattles. It is however wobbling around badly in the engine bay and because of this both exhaust downpipes are leaking so it makes a bit of a racket. New engine mounts needed.
The interior is very grotty and will need new seats or the seats recovering. The glass rubbers need replacing and the windscreen is going milky.
Looking under the car the chassis looks good to average with a good coat of waxoyl everywhere. All brake lines are braded, it's fitted with adjustable AVO shocks, stainless exhaust and a stainless petrol tank. Sadly the petrol tank looks beyond repiar. Also the rear chassis member is obviously rusty and the impact has torn the tank strap clean out of it.
The fibreglass damage is a mess, but seems repairable, I had similar damage to do to my Quantum kit car (now sold) after a heavy landing punched the drivers seat through the floor (I'm not that heavy ).
Anyway the first thing I'm going to do is get the petrol tank off and the chassis rail welding done. I'll update the thread as I go.
