Hi, so this thread is about my latest project.
I bought a very tidy Mk1 some time ago. Now what would you do with a minty 1100 Mk1? It was decided that a more powerful engine was required. After looking at the options I decided that Cosworth engine was the way forward. I managed to find a low mileage blue top Escort Cosworth engine. This was then the route forward. I then bought a Mustang T5 to go onto the engine. This has slightly more useful ratios for a light car than the Sierra Cosworth box.
The brakes at the rear are standard Sierra. The brakes at the front are AP racing 4 pots with big vented discs, again from AP.
Rear suspension is a double wishbone that I have designed using Gardner Douglas uprights. Roll centre is at 80mm above ground with .05 deg camber gain per 1” of bump. The roll centre is laterally very stable. Not sure about the front yet but I do have tarmac spec Gartrac strut bodies with Bilstein inserts. I might again go for a double wishbone setup. I hae a pair of very nice uprights that I might use. TBD there.
Safety devices were very helpful with the cage which is a weld in item.
The body mods are fairly extensive. I’ll post pictures shortly with some more info of each mod if required. The rear quarter panels are arched now. I’ve just bought the front arches in steel from Ex Pressed panels.
I’ve got to finish the roll over jig so that I can get on with the fabrication of the rear structure.
Right, that’s me for now. I’ll keep this thread updated as things progress.
Here is a link to some of the pictures of the car so far.
