OK I'm not massively convinced its really that retro but its all Ive got that gets close to qualifying really and justifying my existence here lol
It started back in August 2004. I was driving my first car a 1.1 Fiesta 5dr, that was my pride and joy. Highly modified I'd just bought a full body kit for it and I was rolling on 17" alloys with neons and unique mods. Then my car was parked across my drive one day (my drive was being block paved) and my dozy old neighbour reversed out straight into my passenger door. I claimed off his insurance and with quotes around £600 for a new door sprayed and fitted I thought for
certain it was going to be written off. So I set about looking for a replacement.
September was spent trawling Autotrader and ebay for various cars I wanted a fast fuel injected car as I had a couple years no claims under my belt. I narrowed my choices down to the following:
Peugeot 106 XSi
Peugeot 205 1.6 GTi
Renault Clio 1.4
Id tracked down a red 205 Gti for £260 and was going to look at it when I remembered that the Ax GTi was the same engine as the XSi.
To ebay I went and found nothing. Now being a bit of an ebay addict I think nothing of trawling through tens of pages to find something badly advertised. So I typed in GTI into the cars section and trawled through. low and behold up car the following advert:
Citren GTi 1992
I had to laugh it was soooo badly advertised that it didn't mention the word ax anywhere!! it was also very local.
I bidded up to what I wanted to spend (£400) and held my breath, very little happened until the day before the end when it shot up to £375 and then on the final day I was outbid. With 30mins to go I bid £450 and to my relief I won it.
I went over with my dad to pick it up a week later and the bloke (it was a p/ex he wanted shot off) knocked £50 off it as the speedo cable was broken. My dad drove it back and was quietly impressed (except for the skippy handling and brakes).
Before I'd had a chance to properly drive it some moron in a mini cab wiped out my wing mirror and I jumped in the Fiesta and chased him down the road. He got stuck at the lights so I jumped out and shouted and banged on his car at which point he jumped the red and burned off.
So first purchase for the Ax??? A new drivers mirror
Insurance was duely swapped over whilst the Fiesta was in the garage being assessed (turns out they wanted to repair it the fools its why I still have it to this day ;D) and I was off burning up the streets of South East London!!
Mods started to flow but I didn't wanted to go the route I'd gone with the fiesta (show not go) and I told everyone this one would stay standard lmao.
Number plate was moved down to the angled part of the bumper (Ive got a history of number plate relocation lol) and a sunstrip with axoc sticker was put on along with some rally style mudflaps.
then I made some choice purchases a nice set of MINT VTR rims with tyres for the grand sum of £100 (ebay) an OMP back box, Sparco steering wheel and other bits (Demon Tweeks)
.....then the bug started. I had a set of Cobra Monacos in red rock fabric in the Fiesta that I'd bought brand new (expensive!!) so I purchased some subframes, an aluminium fuel cap, green induction kit, and clear rear lights (fitted later as were the seats) also a strut brace was added.
Some more money was spent on some fogs/spots and rally lamp brackets (still one of my favourite bits ) as well as a 3 point harness.
This is what it looked like at French Car Show 2005
AX Owners Club meet at Demon Tweeks.
Few new mods as well front splitter from a Golf Mk4 and rear diffuser from BMW E36 3 series. Also new spot/fog lamps.
October 05 at the pod
Feb 06 after a round Britain tour (blown gearbox week after lol)
Some small engine mods relocated filter, heatshield, lower brace, uprated discs and pads, scorpion twin exit stainless steel exhaust system.
then whilst off the road for the gearbox refit I installed a Peugeot 106 Rallye inlet (cast aluminium) and larger throttle body then went through the torrid time getting it to run OK (long story) Sounds beautiful though really nice noise
FCS 06
Not many changes for this but its probably the cleanest it'll ever be lol
Was my daily hack for work so nothing changed really except keeping it alive and losing bits along the way lol
Jan last year
Was taken off the road in march for several reasons the main one being it wasn't suitable for my new job so I purchased this instead:
Nice Toledo V5 mile cruncher for pennies (£1800)
However the mods keep rolling in for the Ax
Latest additions are:
Spax rear shocks
Compomotive Rallye alloys 7"x15" (similar to these)
then we come to the latest engine additions:
Garret T2/T25 turbo with 360 thrust
Ported VTR manifold and adaptor for turbo
Custom 2'' downpipe
306 GTI injectors
Daztek unichip and Daztek map sensor
PACE alloy intercooler
Honda civic rad and mounts
Various boost pipes
Uprated clutch and 200mm flywheel
and soon
Uprated fuel pump, decompression plate, engine rebuild, front suspension, uprated brakes, roll cage and more
Hoping to be up and running by summer time should be a handfull ;D
thanks for reading this waffle lol
will update when I get round to doing anything!! Hoping to see between 150-175bhp from the new spec, not bad for a 1360cc iron block ;D
