hi forum virgin so please be gentle. anyways some good cars being built on here so thought id add this one. its not mine but have been asked to get it ready for paint. don't know much about mini,s or any other cars when I think about it . all I know is its pre 72 and is having a slightly bigger engine fitted.owner also want a couple of small mods done to it. not giving to much away as it will spoil the surprise. will update as I go but wont really get into it till easter as I have to finish someone Else's project of first

update one computer died so a bit slow with the updates. couple of weeks back owner and his mate came and stripped car to its shell once he left i played around mocking up,as you do

anyways last sunday i finally got to drive this out of the garage. well once i remembered to put oil in the box it drove. had one of them ,curse word what have i done wrong moments so with a nice empty garage i started the mini. first job was to get it on the chassis table. engine is the one going in. its a tight sqeeze ;D
next was to build an adjustable frame that got welded to the table and the car. the reason for this will become more apparant as the build progresses
once it was all braced i done the sensible thing and cut the roof off. who needs one anyway way when we get a whopping two weeks of summer each year
next, cut of all the front end and replace with new panels. and they don't fit to good as it seams the bonnet is too wide at the front and wont shut. perfect gap down the side of the bonnet. not to worry as I have a plan anyways thats it for the mo as I just done the front end bit today. its only tacked in at the mo as I have some other mods to do befor I can finish welding it fully. had 18 hours into this ,this week so far and will try to get a bit more done over the weekend and post some updates sunday

That a rover v8 going in? I would urge you to consider keeping the standard front subframe. You can't have a mini and destroy the handling. (unless you have something even better to fit).
An rv8 fits between the front suspension turrets, and weighs no more than an A series. All you have to do is re-locate the steering rack to the front, and swap the left and right hand hubs, to put the steering arms pointing in the right direction.

it is a rover. wont be any mini parts going back in this car apart from body panels and screen wiper mptor. having double A arm front and rear ends based loosly on ford and some ideas in my head

sat lunchtime. had to go to real work this morning so just managed to get the next two panels temporary fixed. had to do some rust repairs on the a posts once the old panels came off.

tea and fag break. tacked the front panels together. measured for a bit and broke out the cutter. front moved forward 4" did cock up slightly. put an additional brace in but fixed it instead of making it adjustable so have to redo it as the front end tapers slightly as you move it forward.
