Yup, did it. Thanks to Matt for helpful info! It is indeed a little rusty in the key area he mentioned (below the rear window in the boot) but only surface rust. She's a 1982 300D (five-pot, 88bhp - oooh!) auto with 125k on the clock and no fancy trimmings. Everything bar steering is manual - just the way I like it. Very solid but some cosmetic touches needed. If you're interested, the performance is feeble (but super-quick by my usual standards!) and the handling rather oil-tanker like but the ride is smooth and the engine has just a hint of that magical five-pot warble. Sounds like a tractor when cold though - neighbours are going to love me! Plan is to smarten her up a touch and then she'll be sharing the daily commute with the 2CV. Biofuels will come along later, once I've established some benchmark mpg figures on the normal stuff. And the only pic I've got so far... Might not be much happening for a week or two as can't collect for a bit. Oh and it's not beige, it's more cream!

Welcome to the beige minicab fold! Make sure you cover the interior with no smoking stickers, etc.

I did think that a 240D auto must be sluggish! Surely a 200D can't actually move?
It ain't getting lower - not with the state of the roads around here!

My 200d did benifit from a four speed manual! I killed it just trying to keep up with traffic. Shame really, it was from the first year of production (76) and pretty solid. The chrome was far superior to both my coupes (83/84). When i scrapped it i offered whatever people wanted for free they just had to come and get it. No takers at all.
I've got a Deisel brochure for the w123 range that you can have if you like, and a haines. But i'll have to send em to you in a month or so after i've moved as they are already packed.

Much less than he was originally asking and a bit less than he'd dropped the ad to so pricey but I feel she's worth it. Impressively solid underneath. Just could not find any cruddy bits. Gearbox is almost scarily smooth! A friends has just bought a 380SL and my 'box is smoother!
