OK, enough of the shiny stuff for a moment..... Heres some images of a car I bought to restore, but then had a reality check and sadly it ended up being a spares car.....(at least it kept my other retro ride on the road with some rare parts and stuff...... Any how, their must be loads of basket cases out their looking for a friendly welding stick, got some pics of something more rotten....lets see, it might spur someone on to finish a project..... This H120 had sat in the geezers front garden since 1982, when he drove it their after it failed its MOT......I bought it over the phone (on his description) which was.........a little hopeful! Cheers

Funny.....thats exactly what the seller said....." A bit of T cut and job done!" Sadly the only sideways action this one saw was when we pulled it onto the flatbed......... Never mind the mechanicals live on! the car had only done 30K so most oily bits were fine! ;D

option 1: weld (yeah i know, to what?) a massive multi point cage in along with a floor, track day it? option 2: stick on a VW badge and sell it to some dim american who wants in on the rat scene. Just tell him it's rare

That was a hell of an ambitious proj - good effort for even getting it on the flatbed!

That looks in exactly ther same condition as one I went to look at in Falkirk a few years ago.
I'm fairly handy with a welder, but it was too much for me.
Shame as I've always liked them.

I spent some quality time with the oily spanners, an angle grinder and a nibbler.......Managed to salvage the close ratio gearbox with heavy duty overdrive (hi-pressure), complete Holbay engine....although it was seized solid (stood with no antifreeze since the early 80's) high ratio diff and a full set of H120 springy bits..... Not to mention the complete RED interior! The rest either got boxed up and put in the shed for that "just in case moment" or sadly taken down to the local tip....(in small pieces, so as not to arrouse suspision as to its true identity......ie. a stonking big car to throw in the skip.....) I spent a lot of time stripping and rebuilding the engine, gearbox and its doing great service in another H120 that i own, that had much better structural integrity....but still needed a year of welding and stuff! Despite many years of standing, the engine is great! Once the ally head got an acid bath and a skim. (that got rid of all the white fur that had filled the engine!) Runs sweet with the 2 webers on song and tuned up..... When i stripped them they were full of the hard varnish you get left over when 20 year old pertrol has fosilised! But thats another story.................................
