Hey Ratdat, the £50 it the main reason why I haven’t fitted a pre-filter. I’m too stingy!
I am going to see if theres some more shiz in the tank and if so, clean it out. If I cant actually see any lumps in there (i defo got it properly clean before i refitted it) then i’ll admit defeat and splash the £50! I was hoping though after all the efforts to get it all properly clean and de-rusted I might get away without needing one.

Entirely understandable! Maybe it's possible to cobble up something a bit cheaper using some fine metal gauze to act as an external strainer, assuming there isn't one in the tank. I can have a look and see if we have anything at work that would do that job.
Is the fuel line between the tank and pump new or original?

Good effort with the waxoyl and bumpers, looks remarkably solid. Must be frustrating having it breakdown like that. Hope you get the gremlins sorted!

Argenta is still in the garage ATM. brought it in and assumed the standard position: Out came the tank again!!!! Had to swill it out again. Made an elaborate coffee filter type arrangement: Swilled it out about 20 times, and got quite a few lumps of shizz out, not sure where these have come from as the tank is still clean and sealed, as is the filler neck. They could have been washed out the inside of the metal return pipe from the engine I suppose. Anyway when the tank was free of dirt I chucked it back in and got ready to go for a drive. Then, I found that, despite 'fixing' them a while ago, the headlights had packed up AGAIN!!!!!!! WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN Last time they packed up I found a bad connection on the stalk switch and soldered a new wire in which brought them back to life. Now they were u/s again, this time I was really freakin mad. dismantled the column again: After A LOT of mucking about I decided the switch was the culprit. I swilled it through with WD40 and tried it. SING HOSANNA, the lights were working again. But after 2 mins: Can you see that grey wispy thing beside the grey/red wire? I was annoyed to see a load of smoke coming out the switch now. And sure enough the headlights flickered out again shortly afterwards. The switch is clearly jiggered, i'm never gonna find another of those so I will have to bypass it and fit my own switch. I put it outside and forgot all about it Now then. The Rover is due for an MOT shortly, and was suffering from a bit of rot in the usual Honda rot spot: The classic 'dogleg rot' in the rear of the sills/front of the wheelarch. It was not mega bad, but bad enough to fail the test, and I had watched it get progressively worse over last winter. time to do summat about it. I wanted to try and keep the repair just to the dogleg bit and not make a mess of the rear wing. Unfortunately the innner arch had gone a quite close to the top. The inner sill was alright fortunately. Had to chop a corner out the rear wing, I did it carefully with the fine discs in the hope that I could stitch it back in afterwards. Also chopped the rotten bit out the inner arch Outer sill patched: Inner arch parthed and corner piece stitched back in again: started to position the new dogleg (I had bought a new arch, but was trying to only use 1/3 of it) welded it in. The metal is amazingly thin that these Rovers are made from, had to turn the welder right down to the absolute minimum and weld in little bursts or it just burned through. The new arch is noticeably thicker metal than the original! Now I love a bit of that 1980's style primered up wing/wheelarch look, so on went the red oxide: looked reasonably tidy in there: INVISIBLE* repair!!!! To be fair I reckon I will probably buy some aerosols and paint this 'properly', i'm not big on cosmetics but its not a massive task to paint that little bit is it. Anyway, its in for an MOT at 8am tomorrow!!! Fingers crossed. Great car this. I have done 30,000 miles in it since fitting that new engine earlier in the thread. Not bad eh?

Jeezus Mr.B, you've got unbelievable patience with that Fiat. Fair play. I'd have probably fixed the fuel issue by taking it out in a field and lobbing a match in the tank before walking away without a backward glance.
Just a very long shot but do the column switches bear any resemblance to earlier ones from 124 or 125?
Nice bit of metal work BTW. Looking forward to finishing my workshop revamp now so I can crack on wityth a nice bit of grot fixing myself.

You might find a column switch on italian ebay. I think it's a common problem. I don't think there is a relay in the circuit. Apparently fitting one saves the switch and can also improve the headlight performance. Hope the fuel issue is now cured

Yo MM, you're right the sidelights and tail lights are actually whats packed up and theres no relay!!! The headlights are on their own circuit (with relay) and they're OK.

GR13 UPDATES BO110X! The Argenta does seem very ungrateful for being rescued and put back on the road... I'm sure it'll be a nice motor once you iron out all the faults. Looking better with the side trims cleaned up too, I bet you want to go back and redo the bumper now? A while ago, though Flickr, I found a bloke in Scotland (iirc) who has a huge collection of 132s, about 7 or 8 cars in total, including two utterly rotten but complete spares cars... worth getting in touch and seeing if he has any bits you need, assuming they are shared between the two models?

Was it scotland or Ireland? I remember a story about a mental paddy bloke who could not stop himself buying every 132 and argenta he came across and 'storing' them in his field. Unfortunately he died and his family (understandably) did not want to get involved in rehome a dozen immobile manky old fiats that had sat rotting for years and I think most of them (except one or two that were minters) went in the bin.

There is a man in Scotland who has about 9 132s including two spares cars. Unfortunately the Argenta column stalks are different I think. 132 column stalks come up quite a bit on ebay Argenta ones less so. I think they look similar to slightly newer Fiats like the Croma and Uno so you never know. My Agenta had the same fault and the previous owner had fitted a switch. Fortunately I had a spare and got it sorted. When I restore the car I will be fitting relays where required though to try to prevent the problem re-occuring.
Apparently the 131 is the same.

Yeah i was!!! The Fiat passed its test without any welding being required!! There is admittedly a little hole under it which I might attend to soon however.

I hope the fail on the Rover wasn't too serious, but I am sure it is well within your vast skill set.
Any news on the Maser?
