Picked up yet another car to tide me over until this is on the road. A rough and ready 318is previously used as a tarmac rally car. The previous owner was fairly blunt in that it had been through a few hedges! But it's got it where it counts and it very fun to drive. Only problem is the mud and snow tyres causing, how should we say, interesting handling... A suggestion to its past use, my girlfriend loves it as a footrest! It's getting the speedo fixed, the surface rust sorted and some 15" alloys then as far as I'm concerned it's done.

First thing I thought when I saw the thread title was "track weapon"... seems someone else had a similar idea! Are you feeling a few track days next season with it? Could be fun!

mmm yes! I fully plan on hitting some tracks in the next year. Me and my dad have a few E30s between us (no less than 5) and we have an unloved four door 325i that's getting stripped very soon with track intentions, but that isn't road worthy and I can't get insured on a 325i!
I've contemplated stripping the car but inside it's so nice! I really need to get my alloys on it ASAP because the mud and snows are squirmish to say the least.

Not much done except some electrical work to make the speedo function again and sanded off the surface rust and slapped on some hammerite. The biggest change though is the fitting of the rims that belonged to one of my previous E30s. The tax runs out soon and it needs some attention to the timing chain, so I'm leaving behind while I go back to uni. At the end of the month I'm heading home to fit some shorter springs, fit a lip to the front bib and giving it a good service and fixing the timing chain rattle.

Are those wheels Alpines? They look awesome - still the best wheel out there for an E30 IMHO

Minor update to the IS, got rid of the spacers and sourced me some 15" BBS's. I really like this photo.

Look like cool projects. The 318iS is a great wee machine, they are amazing fun to drive imo.

I bet the 325 will weigh a fair bit less now! When I took the drivers seat out of mine to fix it I nearly broke my back, they weigh loads - plus the carpets are really thick and heavy too. It should shift with that weight removed! Don't suppose you have the little ashtray and surround from the centre tunnel in between the front seats going spare do you? Mine is cracked, assuming my '89 325iS has the same part as your Dad's 325? Also, does it / did it have central locking? If you're stripping it out I need the central locking relay thingy - it's a long Bosch relay located in the driver's footwell down behind the speaker, you have to unscrew it from a little bracket and pull it out from down a gap between the panels there. Let me know if you have those bits and what you want for them?

Hopefully it will, I'm hoping for a 100kg+ weight loss. I've stripped out everything non essential interior wise now but as you say the front seats weigh a tonne, I would like to put buckets in it, but I haven't got the time to both find and fit them.
This surround and ashtray, is it the one that incorperates the hand brake? If so yes, other wise I damaged the one that surrounds the gear knob. I possibly can get the central locking relay from one of my other cars. I'll have a look anyway.
Cheers

Yes, the one behind the handbrake, the ash tray and it's little surround lift out / un clip, I only need those bits, not the whole thing as that's in good condition. If you could find a central locking relay that'd be great, also think I need the central locking actuator solenoid from the drivers door as that appears to be faulty on mine too. Trying to sort the dodgy central locking you see. Please PM me if you have those bits and let me know what you want for them

Stu, I'll PM you when I've got a relay out Oh yes! Both will be unleashed, really looking forward to it. But the amount of work I've done to the 325i, I'm definitely expecting a few laps Today's been a good day, it's so nice playing with new bits and pieces. Spent today rebuilding the suspension with -35 or -40mm springs and some sport bilstien shocks. The suspension looks great and it looks loads better on the 14" BBS rather than it's previous mismatch-special. Photos tomorrow when I've finished the rear, bolted the seats back in and gone for a drive Edit: It might even be lucky enough to get a pressure wash!

Sports Bilstiens and new springs Old shock and battered collar which refused to come off, notice the size difference in the shocks for the next picture Much better and thicker. The shock collar design is better tenfold. With the new suspension and 14" BBS, still not washed Gave it a good thrash and it seems very good!

The trackday has been and gone and it was very successful. Both cars performed flawlessly, which is quite impressive since the 325i hasn't been used for about 4 years. We both gave the cars a hard time and they took it in their stride. They both stripped the tread off the rear tyres, but it was a lot of fun doing it In the end the 325i lost over 100kg, which for a mild interior strip I thought was quite impressive! Dad also gave them both a wash RAF Marham Calm before the storm (6am )

Good to see you and the beemers on track Rob, definately considering one for next time. You too, the cortina looked like it was having fun. I don't blame you for considering one. For example, the 325i was bought for £200 (although it was about 4 years ago), shocks £90, springs £50, cam belt and other odds and sods £not much, harness £30. Overall, that car owes us well under £400 and it performed faultlessly on the track, although it does drink like a fish There is obviously more that can be done to it, it has a fair bit of rust and all the bushes could be replaced, a sportier steering wheel would do wonders too. My IS owes me probably just as much, and that's fully on the road Parts are cheap (or just ask me, I have 2 E30 parts cars now), cars are cheap, I couldn't really think of much better value for money.
