Decided that the oil explosion was a good excuse to swap out the suspected leaky dellortos for my single Mikuni 40PHH setup, so I can rebuild the dells. Had a few issues (insert many curse words here) with the Rowland single sidedraft manifold (which is a clone of the Lynx one that is long out of production). I had to clearance the exhaust manifold, and do a bit of grinding to the intake manifold before it would fit. Then I had to custom fab a bolt due to there being zero clearance to actually slip it into the mounting hole. It's been an aggravating two days, to put it mildly. The clearancing (done with a busted drill and a hand file...cast iron is my new enemy) How the bay looks now (not done completely installing everything, cleanup to do) Oh yeah...it runs too . My jetting is waaaaaaaaaay off, the mixture screws are 7 full turns out...the mikuni manual says a good starting point is 1. Hopefully I can fab up a throttle cable for the weekend so I can see how far off it really is. The throttle response is crazy though...it's almost faster than the duals!

Got some new toys, the best of which are a nearly-new set of DCOE 45s. Did a favor for someone on the VWVortex, and as a thank you, he sent me this stuff: Did I mention that they were free?

I'm still reeling from the shock of opening that package and finding these gems in it . They're 152s (Spanish construction), but the progression hole issue seems to have been addressed, so they'll be perfect on a 2.1 that I'm trying to build. If the sender wasn't on the opposite side of the country from me, I'd still be shaking his hand!

I just took one of them apart to see what the insides were like. I did it in the TV room, on the coffee table...with the wife right there! No dirt, no grease, and they don't even smell like gas! I REALLY have to find a way to keep the good karma flowing, maybe I'll give my dells away when it comes time to run the Webers .

Again with the long-time-no-updates! Finally got out into the REALLY cold garage and mounted my new rims/rubber. Ground a bit off the front calipers, and slapped 10mm spacers in the rear...to achieve this result! I lucked out with the tires too, the second last set of 175/50-13's in Canada! National backorder, I expect it even affects the USA too, but I didn't bother looking down there. We only have access to one brand of tire here in that size, and the next smallest is 175/70-13 . It was a chilly 0* in the garage too, thank goodness for forced air propane heaters .

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get it out of the garage (fingers crossed for three straight days of rain and +7*C ), and get some decent pics.

Got my new pics! HOT DAMN IT'S (possibly) SPRING! I also took it for a spin on the new rollers. I'm in LOVE! ...yeah yeah, I know, there's some reverse rake on the go. Gotta spin the fronts down a shave .

BIZZUMP! Recently decided to make a few changes...so needed to order myself a new toy: It's already running on the EDIS stuff, in limp mode, so by the end of tonight it'll be custom mappable. I've also added a Neuspeed 256 (mild) cam, an adjustable cam gear, a replacement set of Dellorto DHLA40Hs (6-hole vs the old 5-hole), and an Innovate LM-2 dual channel wideband setup. I've also snagged a cam cover from an-over-the-pond spec MkIII GTI (4cyl) for $8 CAN on ebay.co.uk, since we didn't get that version of the 2.0 engine. All in all, it looks exactly the same as it did in the above pics, except I had to paint the passenger side door (it was our wedding car ).

Just got back from the inaugural test drive. I'm ridiculously impressed with the Megajolt setup, it's a lot smoother than it was on the CIS-E setup. The usual flat spot between part throttle and what has been diminished, and it idles great. It was super easy to set up, install, and operate. I'm definitely stoked :greatpost:. The overview: My distributor delete (aka: an old dizzy cut down and capped): The EDIS and MJLJ modules (the megajolt is mounted in a CIS-E ecu case): The TPS mounted to the throttle shaft of the carbs (to enable 3D ignition mapping, RPM vs. Throttle Position)

Excellent stuff, wiring (or any sort electrikery) gives me the fear. Having said that, this setup doesn't look too complicated.

Wow, excellent progress there fella! I'm really interested in the MegaJolt set-up, it seems really good. I might start collecting up EDIS bits for when (if...) I decide to go that route with a car.

I'll pimp Autosport Labs (creators of Megajolt Lite Jr) at any opportunity now . A whole host of nagging little issues that I figured were carb related, have all been reduced by the addition of the new ignition system. Even from a dead cold start, it only takes one pump to get the car fired up. It used to take at least three, and some crossed fingers. I love this system!

Just dynoed today, very happy with the results. 105whp / 119wtq, stock head, neuspeed 256 (+4* on cam gear), 32mm chokes in the carbs, stock dual outlet manifold/downpipe, and 1.5" exhaust . This is with a basic map in the Megajolt too, peaking at 28* at wide-open-throttle. I hope to be 'upgrading' to a 16v Scirocco exhaust soon, since it's a 2" bore, and will be 'old-man' quiet .
