Thought before i put it back on the ground i can remove the engine mounts , drop the engine a bit and get the hot air ducts/slits/ holes sorted... Now i had this plate left over from my splittie restauration and although the misses says i always say this but i knew it would come in handy sooner or later.... Cut three ribs out and welded them into the lefthand innerwheelarch.. Will finish off cleaning up the wheelarch tomorrow, i´ve been putting it off since i bought the van. As i ´m not sure if this is going to be enough i cut another hole in my van... this is the rear of the wheelarch from inside... directly underneath this is a part of the frame which is handy as the spray from the wheel cannot come back up into the cab and the hot air can vent through the last 6inches of frame.... the good thing about this is that it gives me a one off chance to clean out the frame and give it a once over with a paint brush...from the inside! This is what was inside...(glad it´s not rust and only dirt!) all cleaned up and painted, i´ll weld one of the VW thingeys on top of it tomorrow.

All these FK models are tiny and i´ve never seen one in 1/18
Cheers,
Dave

Looks like you´ll have to pop over for a cup of tea and eyeball my spare van hidden behind the shed ;D
or you come over to santa Pod for the 1st of June, we´ll pick you up on the way through...!
I have to get a move on with the van because i need to order a radiator and propshaft and that takes time. Apart from that my April and May are going to be very busy at work so i want to get it done before then..
Plus i need my mate Mike to do the electrics for me and that´s not done in one weekend either (he lives nearly 200km away..)

Great work as ever, your making short work of this conversion! That inner wing looks lovely, amazing condition for a van of this vintage! Time well spent I think

Cheers Street,
yeah it´s not too bad. had to do a bit of welding last year when i bought it but nothing serious, luckily.
Scraping, grinding, polishing all the curse word off the bottom has to be the low point of any project, especially if you can´t throw it on it´s side.
But like you say, think it´s worth it.
Will give it a once over with some two pack and some wax on top... I´m not interested in shiney bits underneath but would like it looking half decent.
How´s your family dragster getting on?

Well managed to get an afternoon in the garage (we got our stocktake out of the way last night so won my weekend back!) as the left hand wheelarch was cleaned up i primed, it and gave it a once over with with some stone chip.... Got the heater on it to dry it up a bit faster and sprayed it with two pack.... As i wanted to get the van back on the ground to see how much i´m going to have to modify the sump it meant i had to clean and paint the other side first... got 45 years of paint, dirt and wax off, primed it, stonechipped it and got it looking half decent again.. Sounds easy but cost me a day.... Well it´s now on the deck and i can finally see how much clearance i´ve got between the sump and the front axle..... ....NOT ENOUGH Will have to whip the sump off tomorrow and see what i can do, will get something sorted out... As Henry Ford once said..... " If you think you can, you can... ...and if you think you can´t, you´re right!"

You think that sumps a Problem Dave you should have a look at the fun I`m going to have on the Kadett Pics are on teh other computer but its basically cut the bottom off starting about 40mm down from the top and then stepping down as you go back.... Oh and its a front pickup in the bedplate for the oil pump so I need to get a swept bend in there too Bus is coming on great though fella, not had a chance to find any cores.... have a look on www.nissens.co.uk and see if there is anything on there that looks like it might suit ? Cheers Dom

Cheers Dom,
the pic up pipe shouldn´t be too much of a problem, if memory serves me right the 2.8 one should do the job, in fact I might take the sump off the 2.8 as well as it´s steel I can weld it.
That link you sent is only about Nissen huts and not radiators, could you have another look for me please?
Cheers,
Dave

Nice work under the arches Dave Is the axle directly below the sump in that front end photo? Difficult to appreciate the depth. Sitting on the wheels at ride height? Not much room anyhow!
