I'm absolutely gutted for you The only silver lining in an otherwise curse word cloud is that anyone who has been reading your threads avidly as I have will know with absolute certainty that you will fix it, it will look better than ever and that we we all be left wondering 'how the hell does he do such quality work so quickly??!!' Soldier on dude, it will be worth it

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Absolutely gutted for you Dave But equally amazed at your ability to turn it around and go get the repair section. I'd have just gone and curled up in a corner somewhere. You've got to bring it over even if that bit is in primer....

Good man for maintaining possession of your marbles and fixing it all so quick!! BTW, might it be an idea to get a garage closer to home? (Just a thought!)

oh no you have a spare rear light ? Otherwise i would contact my ford man, probably he has something.... but you'll get it in time, otherwise it wouldn't be a shame to have a primered corner..

That's a real b*stard mate,if it had been me I probably would have slammed the door repeatedly to vent my anger thus knackering the other side too.
Admire your ability to keep control and get stuck in,respect is due.

Gutted for you Dave, top marks for getting straight in and not kicking stuff and making it a whole lot worse (my usual solution ) Sorry dude, pm'd ya before I saw this, but the wiring was definitely down to knacked insulation on the alternator wire, the loom I just stripped for the hearse had all the insulation cracked and 8 inches with no insulation at all! Genuine ford repair panel looks like it's gone in nicely though.

:heartbroken: Ouch...I'd have spent a good long time sitting and swearing, before calling it quits for the day. Big props to you for getting right back in there!

Gutted. What a pants day after so much effort. It will get sorted at the speed of light (like everything else you have done) and come out ace again. Keep the faith. (easy to say, I would have gone and sulked for days)
We all know you can and will do it.
John.

Thanks guys.
I´ve calmed down a bit now and things don´t look too bad.
The only thing that kept me going yesterday was the fact that there´s no way i´m going to Geeste and Santa Pod with the van in primer and the only way to get it finished will be to get it in paint this week. So after a few deep breaths and a brew i just got stuck in, no choice really. Still don´t know how i managed to knock it into reverse while stood outside, never mind scheiße happens!
After hitting the dents for a couple of hours i was getting nowhere fast as the whole corner was twisted, but our Christian came up with the idea of chopping the corner out of the 56.
Good idea, wrong van though, that´s why i drove over to the barn and chopped it out of my spare.
I´ve just had a natter with my sprayer and i´ll be taking it round before he knocks off this evening, with a bit of luck the corner will be done by Friday and the rear door sometime next week!!! ;D
This´ll give me the weekend to get it all together and unless i drive it off a cliff or something equally silly i should have it ready for the 23rd. ;D

Nightmare faux-par on that one Dave, glad you had the spares (almost ) to hand and got crackin on it...... too many times things like that mean an xtended lay up in the shed of doom. Excellent repair skills in action - good thinking on both yours and your boys part with the other bodies around. Soon be sorted - nothing keeps a good man ( or petrolhead ) down ;D John

Unlucky, but brilliant work on getting it sorted so quickly
One of the reasons I'm scared of auto's
i'be be trying to fit some kind of push button like they have on boats - you cant move the throttle lever (or gearstick in your case) without depressing the button

Thanks again guys, Tim´s right i must get something sorted so that can´t happen again. Haven´t got the foggiest how to as the old gearlinkage is a normal column change slightly modified......humm will have to think about that...anyone out there with a brilliant idea that doesn´t involve electrics? But the main thing is, nobody was hurt (except my pribe maybe)and thanks to Mike, the engine is back up and running and the electrics are still i one piece. ;D
