So, my mini- 1992 L reg Mini Mayfair with a 998cc engine. Its turning into a labour of love, lots of work, and pretty much a restoration for such a late car. When I got it, it looked fairly sound, was mot’d and went quite well. It was bought for me as my 17th birthday present, however since the drive home its been off the road! Basically, I ended up not being able to get a provisional licence for a year to even be able to learn to drive due to medical reasons. This meant it was standing for a year. When I did get the provisional, we went to get it serviced by a mechanic friend of the family. It turned out to need a lot of work to get it through the MOT, despite still looking very good. So work began on the body, which is now complete. It had: A panels A posts Wings Door skins Front panel Rear valence Windscreen scuttle repairs Boot floor repairs And has been resprayed in black with an old English white roof. It is now at the back of my mums shop where I can work on it, and have made a little workshop with the help of my stepdad, very useful. right- this is what she looked like before the new panels + spray: And here she is now! Its not all good news though- i thought it would be rust free now, since it had lots of new panels and a respray, but after stripping most of the interior, i found this floor pans: Dash: Rear bins: Also a dodgy gap between drivers side scuttle and wing Here it is with a mostly stripped interior: And under the bonnet, looking a bit grubby. Leverage! oops! too much leverage! 12g295, ported too! Tasty Twins. Wheels, 6x mini special wheels. Can you say Splits And my wonderful exclusive: frog eye bonnet. Not seen another yet. Follows the curve of the wing real nice With lights:

amusingly, there wasnt a hole after removign this peice! cowboy mechanic wleding panels over the rotten ones! lovely! the holes growing again! new floor pan time! currently int he post from minispares. fillign the big holes in the bulkhead, as i wont be needing them. looking smooth already- no filler yet! bonnet pin brakets my sexy centre console struts and ISO stereo hole instead of switch panel. nick was very proud of his welding here! with a bit of filler, its lookign really good! roll cage mounting paltes welded in at 9pm tonight, think the smokers in the pub garden just the other side of the wall next to the mini must have got a nice light show. hub dissasembly! ball joints are a pain to get off! Heres nick, looking very evil, modifiying my park tool 36mm headset wrench to become a 38mm ball joint spanner! it got 3 of them off (after lots of blowtorching and each of us levering on 4 foot poles, one around the spanner, the other aroung the vie handle to stop the thing turning!), and then bent on the last one- stubborn biatch! when this happened, nick really had some fun, and went nuts with my welder. did the job though! i cleaned up and painted the hubs tonight as well. looking much nicer now!

rear subby build started sill going on Rear arch repair piece When the rear subby rusts through/arches completely disintegrate, then i will get a beam axle, coilovers and tub+ turret the rear arches. loading up to go to the garage -Big thanks to john and Kev at Brunston Motors for the use of thier garage facilities for 2 weeks- rest of the mini is in the back of the golf! LOW! rear arch patch installed. another repair peice tacked in 2nd floorpan went in much neater than the first, combination of less rust to begin with, experience, and better welding gas. Rust was worse at the rear of the sill on this side though Me preping the dorrstep/quaterpanel lip for the new sill. Repairs to the inner sill/floor painted inner sill before welding on new sill new sill on and primed all sprayed up Striped, cleaned, re seam-sealed, painted and undersealed the whole of the underside. Rear subby on the car Front subby on the car! smoothed bulkhead, still need work, was primered to stop the filler soaking up water while towing it home in the rain. My fuel tank arrived And my new jack! Won it in a miniworld competition. And the car back home, on its wheels for the first time in quite some time!
STILL havnet got the engine, was meant to have it 2 months ago, but i do have some picys of it now! Tasty isn't it? I have also bought some very tasty bits from someone breaking there project as they need to move house. Red car in pics is his, so is the engine int he background of the subrame pic, i havent colected it yet) One Z cars front subframe: This will be powder coated white. I also purchased KAD anti roll bars (front one shown with subframe there), and a modified gear linkage + selector with a KAD quickshift form the same guy. i125.photobucket.com/albums/p67/danwebster4130/IMAGE_049.jpg[/img]Don't worry about my rear suspension either, here are some pictures of my freinds car, and ive been talking to the same guy who has done these mods. Tubbed and turreted arches, with cut down subframe running coilovers: Sorry for the massive thread, lots of pics to trawl through i know! but i like to show what ive done. any comments and questions are welcomed!

And don't worry about the size of the post, my mini post had a similar start! Nice golf too! Teledials and a 16v engine in the background of some of the pics

Cheers guys! wish i had my own garage to work in, only got outside and a small workshop, half of which is about to fall down lol!
My dads just purchased another mini, so my nice subframes that are no longer required due to the z cars one and rear mods will be going on that, along with the 12g295 head and twin HS2s that are lying around.
Yeah, that a KR engine ready for the golf, got some motorbike carbs for it. also got the option of a supercharged lump now (not g60) but il put all that up in a seperate gol thread.

Loving the car, keep considering a Mini as next car then look at stuff like this and realise they're so far beyond me unless I get one already welded and solid and then they're silly money!
Bet you can't wait to drive it now, knowing every single nut and bolt is done right and better than when it left the factory!
