Raaa! I realise this probably won't intrest most and that it may not even be considered retro by a lot, but here it is anyway. Having sold my M5 converted E28, I fancied something more sedate next. The E28 was great fun, but it was ridiculously loud, awkward in traffic and generally a bit of a pain to live with as a daily hack. Too hardcore for what I wanted really. I was initially looking for an Alfa GTV, but somehow I managed to end up with an old Jag. Right, some pics -
Its a 1992 XJ40, with the 3.2 litre straight six in full on "pub landlord" povvo spec. Its ace though, I really like it. It went straight through the MOT the morning I got it, without a single advisory. Hardly any rust on it as well, which is a shocker for anyone that knows old Jags. Driving it is really quite serene, its so quiet and comfortable, just pop the box into "D" and let it waft away. Ride quality is astounding for a 15 year old car with 128000 miles on the clock, easily comparable with my partner's Lexus LS. As an added bonus it smells bloody lovely inside!
Niggling issues, the idle is sometimes wanders a little bit whilst sitting in traffic, but nothing I can't live with. Also the oil pressure gauge tells all sorts of lies which has lead to a couple of heart in mouth moments as I momentarily think I've lost all oil pressure. I'll try to get them sorted and maybe try to source some full leather seats as well (half leather at the mo - I told you it was povvo).
I'll probably be back in a BM at some point, but this is perfect for me at the mo, considering my life seems to revolve around hacking up and down the A1 for my work and also my partner's businesses.
By the way, as if to complete my descent into middle age, the above pics were taken at the garden centre - but I was only in there buying one of their lovely cakes! ;D
