Hi, my names Matt and I'm a newbie. Been surfing this forum for a couple of weeks and think it is so interesting and full of some proper nice motors. Think its time I put my baby and very long term project on here to see what other like minded people think. It may not be as retro as some of the motors on here but I think the Renault 21 turbo is a dying breed and it certainly has an old skool feel.
I bought this 21 turbo about 6 years ago and love it to bits mechanically it was trouble free, just owing me a clutch and a couple of starter motors and alternators. That was until about this time last year when the poor baby couldnt take much more abuse and the headgaskest finally went pop. Thinking to myself that because it has been so faithful to the cause I would treat it to the full works, uprated pistons etc, I decided to park it up down my bros house while Ive saved up and removed some motors clogging my mothers and my own driveways. There it sat for a couple of months until some scum decided to chisel the door open and steal my stereo equipment . I decided to bring her back home to where she belonged and just get her back on the road a revamp the bodywork instead of the engine. So I started to change the head gasket. On removal of the head and inspecting the liners I noticed a hairline crack in one of them. Me being in deniale decided just to put it back together but in the end the cracked the liner came back with avengence.
This is what she looked like back in 2003
This it what she looked like back in 2004
This is what the theiving scum did, due to it being painted sports blue with a pink pearl all over, I thought I would be better off giving it a colour change.
Ooops, too much boost equals cracked liner.
When I removed the engine I found all this grime, so I decided to give it a clean.
And this is the new colour I chose for the car. Keeping it Renault but modern
My spare engine, much cleaner than the old one and minus the cracked liner.
Nearly all back together, just built it up so I could hear it run. Going to clean up the rusty parts. Either polish them or spray them satin black.
I have now started the body work by adding a sprinter wing vent to the offside wing to allow more air to the filter.
My plans are, to smooth all the door, add front arches to the back (coz the rears are square). Put 18 inch wheels on, but I don't know whether to flare all the arches out a little bit to help give it a bit more aggression.
Hope you guys like it and will update as soon as I find my camera.
