Well a bit more progress on the 'ole charade, after I took the head off
I went home for chirstmas to the folks place. The head was stripped cleaned
and then skimmed, it was bowed by about 0.22mm along its length, bowed like
an arch which is a little strange, then again the head is so wide and so
short that it's almost square!
I came back after chiristmas to the news that I could move my car from the barn
into the workshop, dry and wind free at last! This gave me the chance to pull
the rest of the engine, the gearbox was going to stay in the car and the block
was coming out.
After a few issues with the strap being put around the intermediate driveshaft,
and trying to pull the gearbox out at the same time (pi55ed all the oil on the
floor!).
It was a bit difficult moveing it all on my own, then again i'm a big boy
It turns out the last owner did'nt look after the car very well, makes me wonder
about how well the body work has been done? Only two of the bell housing bolts were
actually done up, the rest were loose!
Getting it strapped in -
Pulling the engine -
I turned it upside down and then proceeded to pull the sump so that I could begin
to measure the cranks main bearing and big end bearing diameters.
What I found inside was the most comprehensive piston spray bar arrangment I have
every seen! There is a seperate take off from the oil pump that leads to a twin bar,
six jet system! Very well cooled piston CROWNs!
I have now spent over £600 on engine parts so that I can give it a full and comprehensive
freshen up, The pistons are getting new rings, there will be a new oil pump, chain and
sprocket, big end and main bearings, ARP rod bolts, new head botls, full new gasket
set with crank seals, water pump etc. The engine will probably be given a spot of
paint too, make it spanky
I'll run it in and then I can get to the fun go faster bits, carbon boost pipes, VNT22
turbo mounted to a full 316l mandrel bent stainless manifold and exhaust system, integrale
intercooler, and some fuelling and ignition mods
VNT22 -
Hope you are all well, caio!
