Hi everyone, I'm newish to the forum, so thought Id show you one of my current cars. Its a '78 Derby with 37k on the clock. Was all original when I got it (all old MOT's included and even original sales invoice ;D). Ive only changed parts I can put back to standard again if I wanted too, or when I come to sell it, as they are pretty rare and I didnt want to ruin it. Heres how I got it: Heres how it is now: Hope you like. Depending how much longer I have the car (I keep getting tempted by other cars at the moment! ) Ive got a few more plans in store, which includes getting some original steels banded, for a more original look with a twist

How tempted are you to move on from it? My grandad had a V plate gls from new which was ment to be mine when i turned 17, but he chopped it in against Jetta as he needed power steering

very very nice - in way better nick than my '82 Audi lol!!! One of the nice touches are the change of plates - you got any idea re the legality of those / up to which year you're 'allowed' to fit them? Mine are knackered but would love to change to black'n'silver to give that old skool feel (plus they'd go nicer with the paint!). My mate (charletan1) who's just bought a '79 chevette is also wondering the same thing...
cheers anyhoo,
Matt

Why don't you add your phone number and relevant details into your signature, I see you move cars...... Often we need cars moved etc.

Thanks for the comments guys Minty Polo fresh! That looks really cool. Any plans for the engine? If I decide to keep it, then maybe next year I may be tempted to drop a 1.3GT lump in it (or a G40 if I can afford it ). How tempted are you to move on from it? My grandad had a V plate gls from new which was ment to be mine when I turned 17, but he chopped it in against Jetta as he needed power steering Id only be tempted to sell soon if something I REALLY like came up for sale. Thing is Ive got a horrible feeling if I sold it 6 months later Id want another, and early chrome bumper Derbys are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo, especially with 37k on the clock! very very nice - in way better nick than my '82 Audi lol!!! One of the nice touches are the change of plates - you got any idea re the legality of those / up to which year you're 'allowed' to fit them? Mine are knackered but would love to change to black'n'silver to give that old skool feel (plus they'd go nicer with the paint!). My mate (charletan1) who's just bought a '79 chevette is also wondering the same thing... cheers anyhoo, Matt The plates are not legal, got to be pre '73 I think. To be honest they suit the car so well most people wouldnt know any different, and Ive never been stopped by the police. Just change them at MOT time Cool car. Why don't you add your phone number and relevant details into your signature, I see you move cars...... Often we need cars moved etc. Thanks mate. My details are just above my signature pics if you ever need a car moving.

Re the plates: Tom is right, black and silver plates are only legal on cars first registered before 01.01.1973. Slightly different to the tax free status which relates to cars manufactured before this date. So a car manufactured on 28th Dec 1972 will be tax free but if registered on 2nd Jan 1973 it must wear yellow/white plates.
