I had last week off work to look for a new car for the winter. I went to look at some modern dross, Mk 6 escorts and the like, and for the money they were asking the cars were wrecks. On friday I looked through Autotraders entire listing in an act of desperation to try and find something and found 'LADA (1)'. After laughing my bits off for about half an hour at the thought of buying a lada I called the number and it was still there. The folloing day me and dad trundled over to Beckenham in his maxi to have a look at it. A trader had it and thought of it as ' a piece of c##p', it was a one owner from new, 40,000, never been polished and as soon as he saw my dads car he said 'I'll cut the price and put 6 months tax on it if you can make it look half as good as that maxi'. It already had mot untill may so I threw the required cash at him, and drove it home, sideways! Its a real hoot to drive so I think I'm going to keep it, it realy feels like its going to fall over going round corners so things need sorting in that department, ive had so many ideas going through my head for it that it'd be rude not too! The only problems ive got is getting spares for it, theres nothing on ebay! And there are quite afew rusty bits on it but nothing that cant be sorted. Since the pics were taken ive removed the horrid wheel trims, taken off the ugly, heavy and probably quite dangerous bumpers and given it a service and a polish. It gets some absolutly quality looks off people and authough I though the chicks aint gonna dig this, it worked last night, she got in the car with my mate and said 'Oooh, I love your car, its so old skool...' to which I thought 'hmmm, shes just being polite', wasnt till later that I realised how much she meant it! If anyone has, or knows of ANY spares let me know! I think this might be the most unusual car ive ever owned, I cant remember the last time I saw one! One things for sure, its getting well and truley alarmed up! And new tyres, the brakes are great, suprisingly, but the tyres are curse word!

That top gear lada looked pants in my opinion. Wheels too big, car too high. Mine is probably going to get slammed, cleaned up in the original colour, and i know for sure what wheels are going on it. I'm going for a sort of retro south london look, which only seems right as it came from south london. Ive been told that a ford 2.8 V6 goes in on the original mounts, so you never know!

Sounds like a plan...except for the V6 bit! I'd being looking at Fiat bits - just like Lada did.

And she definately sounds like a keeper She looks like one too She knows nothing about cars, she just likes old stuff, which to be honest, rocks big time! The fiat lump is a realy nice conversion, but i know people who can do silly things with a V6 on the cheap. Next on the mods list is a decent steering wheel. Ive had it hanging around for a while but its got a mini boss. Luckily we have an engineer at work and he reckons he can make it fit, which is good. Trouble is, the steering is sooo heavy that its going to be a nightmare parking it because the mini wheel is so small! Its got afew creaks at the front end when steering so thats probably making it worse. So we have a box on wheels that handles like a stoned hippo and wants to fall over every time you hang it round a corner. The steering heavy and the horn is on a flick switch on the dash, theres no radio and its got a choke, no electric nothing and no wing mirror on the passenger side. They made this in 1992 FFS! But i luv it! Its like a RWD Maxi saloon with marshmallos where the hydrolasitic units should be, and it seems scared to use any fuel. Its rubbish away from the lights but once its going its suprisingly quick(ish).

No cat on this one, its got points and a carb, which is fine!
I had a look on that lada forum and it looks like someone on there phoned up about this car just before i bought it, then called back 5 mins after I left to go home. I'm sooo sorry. There must have been about 8 calls about the car while i was there sorting put the insurance out!
The biggest rust problem i can see is the door window surrounds, they all look like they are about to fall off! the bottom halves of all the doors are mint so I'll probably get them welded, if its possable.

What, you thought we could have a Lada topic without bringing up this clip?
Watching this one with interest!

Cookie you said you always wanted an A60 well at least you got a car that handels the same. Drop it a few inches and put a fiat twin cam in it if you can find one and a set of banded steels.
