Are you getting fuel through to the metering head or have the pipes rusted sufficiently to knacker it? They always look rusty but generally work fine in my experience. I found the accumulator on mine tricky to undo due to rusty connections so bought a full pump and accumulator unit second hand from a guy on ClubGTI who'd rolled his 16v and was breaking it. Swapped the whole thing over and fitted a new filter, much easier I'm pretty sure from when I looked the dealer charges about 1million quid for those parts so worth getting hold of them second hand if possible. Hey - remember I said in my PM I'd never done much suspension work on my Golf...? Did this today...

f*ck it, guess what i had and guess what i did. bought a complete secondhand set up to replace the failed current fuel pump set up, instead i removed said working fuel pump from secondhand set up, which broke the pipe from pump to accumulator, and replaced the broken fuel pump on the gti. in the process i broke the second pipe from the pump to accumulator on the car,..... so now i have 2 filters, 2 accumulators, 1 working fuel pump and no pipe between pump and accumulator. theres me trying to save time and make life easy..... meh! ah well, lesson learned nice work there stu though ;D what you put on instead? just redid units or something fruity?

nice work there stu though ;D what you put on instead? just redid units or something fruity? I'm just renewing some bits as the rear of the car has been sagging lately. On inspection the strut top caps are rusty and some of the rubbers need replacing. Seems straightforward enough though, should have the parts to finish it next weekend

it is easy enough to get hold of the front lower panel from any non big bumper golf if you want to remove the big bumpers. also the 90spec kt will be easy to sell on.
i am a massive golf fan but at times he do get little upset when people totally transfor a 16v big bumper into a cl as there arent enough original Mk2 GTIs left.
Also it appears you have another 1990 Helios like myself. usually a 1990> car will be ROYAL blue which has a greeny tint to it as opposed to helius with a purple flick which was a 1988-1989 colour with only small number of big bumper ones. The colour is usually found on Campaign editions
