After the thread I started about mk1 fiestas in the general board area here's some pics of my latest capture. Go Perrys!! Retro bucket seats Braaaarp! Braaaap! It started life as an 1100 but now has a 1300 under the bonnet (on a 950 gearbox I think) and has obviously got the xr2 bits and pieces on it.She's very solid, just one or two bits of paintwork to tart up and, no rust! ;D Also need to go round with a pin and get rid of all the airbubbles in the stickers. The problem is it looks like a rally car, sounds like a rally car but it don't go like a rally car So, what do I do - keep the 1300, has a kent 244 cam which means it idles curse word but sounds cool and sort the twin 40's so it runs right with them on or do I ditch the 1300 find an xr2 lump put the 1300 pistons in that (gives higher compression ratio) and run the carbs on that. I've only just put the dellorto carbs on it, it came with a standard twin choke weber, the dellorto's came from the same guy and are apparently jetted right for a 1300 but I haven't got it running right yet with 'em on.It's also got a 4-2-1 fanimold on there which I think will swap across to a 1600. Another option is put the twin 40's on ebay reap the ££££££ and use that to pay for the engine swap with some left over for me holiday spending money - but if somebody were to have a cheap enough 1600 crossflow sat around ....... hmm decisions, descisions.

Yep, well pleased, just needs to be faster.
I'd rather stick wit the crossflow I think, at least I know that'll go straight in.I don't want to be spending a load of cash, I just bought it to have a bit of fun in and any work I do I don't want to keep it off the road for more than a day or so at a time.

Loving the Mk1 XR2 look. There aren't many left now! Stick with a X-flow, they make such a great sound, and there are loads of tuning parts for them. I'm pretty sure Retro Ford are doing a piece on turbocharging on the cheap as well! You know you want to!

Brings back memories! the 1.3 should be pretty perky My dad may still have the "bored" 1600 xflow from my XR2 if any use.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Whatever happens it'll stay crossflow, engines done about 75k the cams only done I think 1500 miles maximum.
Bored 1600 xflow sounds like a plan, got any more info?

what about putting on some bike keihins, with the right setup it should be fun...
so i guess it's just the wrong setup on the carbs that's spoiling it.

I think it's a combination of the carbs and the cam being a bit too much for the engine as it is.
Don't get me wrong though, with the standard twin choke weber on it goes ok, I'd just like a little bit more.

Nice car mate, mk1 rawk hard.
I would go with a hot CVH myself. A very underated engine, lots of people slag them off for being smoky and noisy, but if you look after them they are a great engine IMO. A standard bottom end, with a ported head and decent cam, you'll see 130 bhp on a decent carb. If you want to up the compression ratio 1300 pistons can be fitted to the 1600 con rods.
However if you want to stick to the Kent Xflow, I would ditch the twin 40's and stick a 32 / 34 DFT carb on, it will be cheaper and more economical. Plus the twin on a 1300 is a little overkill anyway.

Theres something special about twin DCOEs on a xflow. Is there no way you could sleeve them to decrease the internal diameter and restrict the airflow?

You might have seen my thread in the general board, but I've checked the jets etc and they're all right, the problem is that the twin 40's have 30mm chokes in and they should have 24mm (iirc).I also need to find a side exit dizzy cap as with a straight one on the inlet manifold is jammed right up against it causing lots of arcing out and misfiring. Anyway, for the time being I've gone back to the twin choke weber whilst I decide wether to keep the 1300 or go for a 1600. I'll be sticking with the crossflow either way - cvh would mean changing mounts, exhaust, driveshafts? etc = more time and money, where as sticking another crossflow in will be much more straight forward. Undecided on the sun strip at the moment, what do you think?

I love this, it's exactly what the kids with a bit more money than we had were hooning around in back in the early 80's when I started driving. Red laser-striped Cobra buckets are just sooooo 1984 Just needa an Audioline stereo with built in graphic and some Level 42 tapes

Please make it as low as possible, I like the look of pepperpots tucked right up under them arches It's already lowered 30mm I think, but it's got a bit of reverse rake on it at the moment so I may stick some -50mm jobs on the front, or I may lose a coil off the front springs and see where it sits then.
