Just picked it up last night. It's a got a seriously loud straight through SS exhaust, strut brace and various other nice bits.    |

Aye it's a 3.5 litre straight 6 m30 engine.
It did have 211bhp from new but I think a few horses may have
died since then as it done 166k.
It's got a straight through SS exhaust with no middle box so it's
VERY loud but I'm not sure if this helps performance or not.

I'm not sure. it's pretty well sorted. It's got deep dish alloys,
SS exhaust and strut brace.
The top end is a bit noisey so that could be first on the fix list.
I've got an 02 Audi TDi I use as a daily driver and I was thinking I could LPG this and use it instead meaning I can ditch a hefy car loan.
I want to make sure the engine's up to it before I spend the money on LPG though.

Sounds like it needs a trip back to its homeland to test its reliability then !  Seriously considering hunting down an engine and box from one of these for my E28 ! |

That's something I'd like to do. I need to start saving for the petrol bill though.
It's the same engine and box (not dogleg) that was in the e28 M535i I think so it should be a reasonably easy transplant.
There's plenty 535i's with no MOT going for a few hundred quid.

I stuffed it into a ditch yesterday morning after hitting black ice on a backroad. The bumper should fix up but the wing will need pulling out. I don't normally drive the BMW during the week but I brought it out as it was a nice morning.   |

gutted for you chap it was very tidy before, still it could have been worse at least you and the car survived to tell the tale easily fixed up

Aye it's a scunner but it's still driving fine.
It started first time and I reversed it out the ditch. They're pretty tough old things. I'll get a new bumper bolted onto it (if I can find a cheap one quickly) and get the paint and wing sorted when I've some money after christmas.
