Took diff over to Paul at Southern Axles who I can highly recommend. He confirmed the diff is in perfect order, so the clunk in reverse is just my paranoia Took it over in a bucket as it weights more than a small country - carrying it in and the bucket gave up, left the rim in my hands and the diff on the floor! luckily no harm done. Still, at least I got to give it a fresh coat of paint last night.

mmm....shiny New end shaft oil seals now fitted; Diff is now back in and half shafts fitted. Brakes done one side. How come I stripped in in an hour yet it has taken 3 hours to get it 2/3rds rebuilt??? Typically I had 5 litres of EP90 oil, wich was too much originally, now I have used it all and I'm about 1/2 a litre short Have to buy a load more tomorrow. PS, did I mention that diff is barstard heavy??

Yes, I have been quiet as I smoothed all the metal down since the photos and have laid on 4 coats - flatting in between and now polished up properly. It now is as smooth as the rest of the car.

I'm so sorry - I'm so used to you showing the finished result - I never expected you to show a picture which is work in progress - I knew deep down that it wasn't a finish you would normally accept

Powder coating.....just don't!! It's quick & easy but it's also a bit fox picture. Powder coated the little tube/brackets for front indicators under headlamps. Doing a little improvement on the headlamp rivets/mounts showed the brackets with nice rust creep all across the front under the coating. Great! Linished the coating off and now painted with epoxy primer & black gloss paint. It will need a couple of coats but at least it wont rust under the paint anymore.

I only powder coat suspension parts and the critical bit from my perspective is the blasting and the prep What I normally do is get the parts blasted then hot zinc galvanised - then powder coat over the top of that The result then is even if the component gets chipped it still doesn't rust

That would work.
I have only a few parts powder coated on the car - mostly fiddly bits that would be a bar steward to paint whereas the powder coating being electrostatic coats all surfaces.
There must have bee some pinholes in the edge of the weld or something that the coating did not get into.

Aarrggghhh!!!! someone took my eyes out!!! Doing some maintainance, fitting sealant under the chrome lamp upstands as they always trickle water after washing. Also bonding the indicator LED's into the steel tubes as they are not a tight fit and walk out of them a bit during driving. Now fully bonded in with black Tiger seal.

Lovely to see this still getting worked on even after all the IVA rubbish.
I met a man named Glen recently who seems think he knows you.
Bright yellow Consul Capri with a honking great big block and supercharger hanging out of bonnet, sound familiar?
