Oooh nice, π. fancied this or similar for a while. Be another year or so before my garage is ready to put one in though.
Please let us know how you get on with it and if it's as good as you think it's going to be.

Got the jack assembled today and after a lot of faffing around I finally got it set to lift the car. Probably would have been easier to jack the car up lol!
I think once I've made some template blocks and made a couple of mods to them it wll be a lot easier. Problem is the pops chassis is short and not parallel, combined with the low exhaust and short wheelbase means that the lifts do not fit the car very well.
Video of it once I'd got it sorted;

With the car safely up on the lifts I got underneath to clean off the mud from the previous weekend show. Took the rear wheels off to give them a good scrub and also to get to the rear wheel arches to wash all the mud off the painwork inside the arches and to clean the rear axle.
Discovered an oil loak on the nearside half shaft bearing seal, so the halfshaft will be coming out in the next day or two to sort that out.
Also finally found the air leak on the drivers rear tyre, taking that into the tyre fitters tomorrow to get the bead broken so I can get into the inside of the rim to seal the bolt that fills the inner tube hole in the rim (I run tubeless tyres) as that is where the slow leak is.
Radiator is also out to get a deeper core fitted - currently a 3 core but going to a 4 core as although it keeps the engine nice & cool it uses the electric fan more than I would like and if I am going to fit an oil cooler in front of it combined with the bigger trans cooler then it needs to be upgraded.

Does the jack have some form of locking mechanism to stop it folding back up again? Or is it just reliant on keeping air on?

Yes it has a steel bar that has 2 safety lock heights built in - you can see the bar dropping in in the video. At the end that is why the car drops back down a little - you raise to full height and the drop it back down on to the locking bar. Hydraulics are then released and not under pressure, car is supported purely on a mechanical fixing.
PS, it's hydraulic oil powered - not air.

Good find on the jack's at Aldi blackpopracing Must make it soo much easier to just lift and help your OCD of cleanliness I'm actually suprised they go under the pop, what with it's odd wheelbase/tyres/track

Took rear wheel into tyre centre today, got it split off the rim and I've re sealed the leaking bolt. I'll get it re tyred & balanced again tomorrow & hopefully no more slow leaks. Took N/S halfshaft out and re-sealed the bearing, with luck this will cure the slight leak. It had contaminated the rear brake pad so a good thinners wash has hopefully got it clean. Might account for the slight brake squeal of late. All reassembled tonight so one job ticked off. All finished here - nice clean wheel arch

Tyre & rim in car - check. Go to tyre centre - check. Get tyre fitted back on rim - check. Fitter asks for the hidden valve adaptor to pump up tyre.....err.....b*ll*cks left it at home Go back tomorrow to get it inflated & balanced

Bumhats Put tyre in car tonight & thought I'd check pressure - it's lost 8lbs in an hour Bit of squeezy over it & the re-sealed bolt is leaking worse than ever. Managed to jump up and down on the tyre and popped the outer bead back off to access the rear of the bolt so I could strip it again. I promptly dropped the nut in the tyre, luckily the wheels are huge so there is enough room to get my arm in - just! Except my arm got a bit jammed in the bead so it was a bit of fun trying to extricate it. I ended up doing what I should have done last night, which was breaking open a new tube of Tiger seal & glueing the curse word in! I used a lesser sealant last night as I had a tube undone. I'll nip the nut a little tighter in the morning as the rubber seal squishes out with the wet sealant. I guess the missing adaptor was a blessing in disguise? As if that was not enough fun the exhaust bracket broke off the daily tonight as well, so a fun bit of welding under that tomorrow too!

They do say no peace for the wicked! I never seem to have time to work on my car when I've finished the 9 to 5 at the mo, so it must be a blessing being your own boss and galavanting about willy and indeed nilly

Hah! you'de think? I 'should' be able to do all my 'homework' whenever I want, but in reality it either (usually) gets put off or done after work - I had more time to do 'private' work when I was an employee! Anyways - added a bit more sealant all over the seal/washer/bolt inside the rim this morning just to make sure!! and pumped tyre back up. Just checked it 3 hours later & still same pressure yay!! I'll get it balanced later so with luck the slow leak will be a thing of the past.

Got radiator back today, it was painted - but not to my satisfaction. A good rub down and clean up and it's now srprayed in satin black. Shiny bits arrived too - it's a bit bigger than I expected so not sure where it will go now.

Self employed is great, but you tend to work harder than a nine to fiver as the thickness of your wallet now depends on you π Do have to wonder though about the number of brackets that break on your cars, Mark. Bad luck,or do you think itβs time to contact the council and let them drop the curb in front of your driveway? πππ
