Picked this up last night, very unexpectedly I might add! A few days ago I mentioned to one of my mates that I've always fancied an E30 tourer, then one night I casually went on ebay and somehow bid and won this...
I photographed the car on it's "good side", since the front passenger door and sill interfaced something on a roundabout by the previous owner. Not bad, just not pretty.
It was bought due running out of time on my E21 project. I go back to Uni in two weeks and I have a car and engine in bits with no end in sight.
A few lessons learned last night. Me and my dad had been at the VSCC event as Donington and popped into Rugby to pick this up last night, then head off home to Suffolk. When we picked it up we didn't really bother to check it since we were getting it home, plus it was cheap. The guy said the tyres were road legal and off we went, since Ebay won't offer their free insurance to under 25s my dad had to drive it back.
We pulled in 30miles or so into kettering services, had a bite at Little chef and I had a quick look over the car. I noticed the oil and coolant lights were illuminated, and guess what, no oil and very low water Luckily we caught it in time, put a good litre and a half of oil into the car with no harm done. I had a quick check of the "road legal" tyres too, running between 10psi and 20psi in all four, one of which is near enough completely bald.
I checked it when I got home last night and the oil and water hadn't moved, over night though it had lost a bit of both. Moral of the story, check your cars more thoroughly than me!
