Hey guys, I'm new here! This weekend I have been down to Worthing to pick up an MG Metro Turbo. Its on a D plate, so its as old as me! The car has seen better days, but I'm pretty confident I can repair it. Its mainly rust, the bootlid and drivers door in particular. The engine looks like it will run with a bit of attention, there is a spark there, but there doesnt seem to be petrol getting to the carb. Anyway, heres the pictures! Cheers, Edd

Do you not find your trailer sways a lot when loaded like that? It would be a lot more stable if the cars facing the other way.
As said above, the Turbos do have an electric fuel pump so check its working.

Yeah, next time we will know to load the car on facing FORWARDS! That was some scary stuff! The fuel pump is working, we have got fuel all the way upto the carb, I think it must be a sticky jet or something. Is that a carb-off job?
Cheers, Edd

It may be the needle valve or float stuck in the carb those old SU's used to be prone to it

Give it a blast with carb cleaner. Tried tow starting it? Seems a bizarre method but it has worked for me in the past.

Its not too bad underneath, better than I was expecting really, front jacking points have gone and the sills look a bit suspect but the floors solid, its been waxoiled at some point.
I love the Rancho, I didn't know there was any left, its so rare to see one now. We used to have one and I loved it, I remember sitting in the backwards facing seats when I was about 10!

They really are great little cars and its so good to see people finally appreciating them and restoring them instead of just ripping out their internals.

OOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF i want that car, hope it goes well for you.IIRC theres a float vent valve that fuggs up on these and everyone just blocks them off,the carbs on these are sealed and you need a special tool set to take them apart.

Well, I have found out why there was no fuel getting through the carb! Time for a rebuild methinks! As soon as I get a unit the engine is coming out and going to get a full rebuild. Edd
