Hi all, been lurking on here for a while thought id better register as i recently acquired this, This is what it looked like to start off with. Now looks like this(front bumper removed to be painted black) Was meant to be a stop gap until i got my 200sx s13 back on the road but ive decided to keep it. Note the comedy ride height! Would like to hit it with the stick but don't have the skillz to chop springs and cant find any lowering springs. Does this model(u11) share much with the T72 or 810 ?

Ooh, very smart! Those sort of Bluebirds are getting very thin on the ground now. I love the tail lights.

Nope first of the fwd bluebirds. I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of the original wheels plus there comically narrow and equipped with ditchfinders. Hirst, wouldnt mind seeing more info on this model esp. the difference between the maxima and other bluebird models.

Coolness! Welcome to the forum Aren't these models popular with the banger racers? Or have I got that round my neck? Could explain their rarity... along with lots of them being used as minicabs. I haven't seen a saloon one for donkeys years. I saw an estate not long back. Love the 2-tone paintjob! What engine does it have? Auto or manual gearbox? Oh, and any pics of the interior? I have a thing for '80s Japanese interiors!

Benzboy pretty sure these bluebirds are a favourite with the banger racers, remember seeing some quite a few years ago when i used to watch them at my local oval. Its a 1.8 manual. I'll get pics of the japtastic interior up tomorrow.

Looks a good find! There’s someone else from the UK on the Japanese Nostalgia site recently bought one, rather than retype what I said there here’s a link… japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=615Yes, banger racers do like them! And yes, I do have lots of brochures, UK, American and Japanese plus others, but those three countries give the best variety. See if I can scan one or two tonight. I do rather like the JDM V6 Maxima hardtop versions, though a full-on US-spec V6 estate with lashings of faux-wood could be amusing. Edit: Just seen the red car above is for sale on this very forum! retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=1188780583

Unfortunately the U11 doesn't share much with the T12/T72 series other than engines. You have to bear in mind that while the U11 is a proper Bluebird (i.e. sold in japan as a Bluebird) the T12 and T72 were not... they were Stanza re-badged for the european market and they were the next generation on. For compatible component you've only really got the other cars from the Nissan range that were on sale at the time such as M10 Prairie and T11 Stanza but neither of those will offer much in the way of upgrade parts. You could possibly swap the entire suspension assemblies for T72 turbo parts but I've no idea if it's even possible and wether it'd be worthwhile. Engine upgrades are easy though ..CA18ET will be the easiest swap with a CA18DET running a close second. SR20DET will fit with some fabrication.
In the UK the Maxima designation was really just a trim level. The true Bluebird Maxima has a different bodyshell with a longer front end to accomodate a transverse V6 (VG30E) engine. That model was also sold in the States, badged purely as a "Maxima".

Cheers for the info guys, thats my plans out the window then. I doubt this car could handle much more power without a serious suspension upgrade. I'm quite happy to stick with the ca18 as i have the s13 for playtime. That red one though . Mine is nowhere near as good as this:-113k on the clock and half of the arches are missing after taking the chrome strips off. looks a lot cleaner in the photos. Whats this like for standard parts availability? Can you still get parts from nissan, although they may be £££££.

I doubt parts would be too bad to get. Nissan will still be able to supply some stuff and service bits will be easy to source.
There is a chance that T72 lowering springs will still fit and they are available. Best thing to do is get down a scrappy and measure up a T72 and see if the diameters are the same. The rear struts are quite similar from what i remember. The main difference is in the brake design rather than the actual suspension.
Then again, you could just buy the U11 turbo that's on ebay!

That's rather lovely, not keen on the alloys though! What spec does the Maxima have?

Up to that old Nissan trick of making an almost completely new car but styling it so it looks identical to the outgoing model then?

Up to that old Nissan trick of making an almost completely new car but styling it so it looks identical to the outgoing model then? Not even outgoing model, but a completely separate model!. As Ed says, U11 range was different to T11, T12/T72 and ran alongside it. If you think about it that way, it means the T12/T72 is actually a replacement for the old Violet, as it replaced the T11 which in turn followed the A10. U11 followed 910 and ran until 1987/88 or so in Japan, after we'd stopped getting them here.

Hey milfordcubicle leave my alloys alone!! ;D Alloys came off my old p10 primera. The car was sold new with these wheels as they were an option. I'm trying to keep spending to minimum which is why i fitted these wheels as they were lying around. What about s13 wheels? Would they look alright? Couple o' pics, Check out the previous owners bodywork skills, chip foose hasnt got a look in! I might have to replace this as its too far gone.
