Meet Katy the Caddy - a 1.6 Petrol MK1 VW Caddy I bought the caddy recently and have just been doing a bit of general servicing and cleaning on it so far - oh and I removed 2 carrier bags full or redundant wiring and 2 non functional car alarms as a precursor to getting some sounds in there. Interior Engine bay after removal of lots of wiring Long term plans are an engine swap - I'm thinking ABF and the A20 cable change box as the correct mounts are fairly readily available - either running carbs or perhaps megasquirt? Exterior appearance is going to remain ratty for as long as possible ;D

I like it. Very much spirit. But doorcards and handbrake cover in "not-blue" would be nicer. This was mine. Sold it 2004

Cheers for the welcomes guys A few more updates - despite spending most of the weekend tidying up the garage as it currently has 4 beetle front seats a beetle rear seat, gen 6 Celica rear seat and 2 Gen 7 Celica front seats in I still managed to make a start on getting some tunes in the Caddy. Head unit is in and powering the Kenwood 4 x 100W amp I bought off of LFB. 2 channels of the amp are currently powering some AudioVox (who?) 300W RMS 3 way components which were £15 from Trago - not the world best speakers but at that price who cares  JVC MP3 and WMA head unit in place Check out the great speaker positioning - my custom door cards don't have space for a speaker and as there isn't room behind I will need to get some marine ply and build some new door cards - I can then build some MDF rings up to hold the speakers and fibreglass it all to make it smooth - then it will need covering or spraying. So for now the speakers are sitting on the floor  I also don't like not having a rev counter so I installed one I had laying around - not sure 11k rpm is enough for the Caddy though  I resisted the temptation to install the remote shift light Oh, and this will need some tidying up before I can get the oil temp and pressure gauges in place

Right, todays mission - get rid of some rust and the bloody horrible blue paint  OK, the bottom of the passenger door was rather rusty so that was sanded down, rust killered and the red oxided - I'm going to continue the red oxide along the bottom leaving just a cream strip in the middle of the car (and that will have to be resprayed too as there are some rust spots there as well. - this will give me a winter proof finish whilst I decide what to do with the exterior. Then it was time to get rid of the remaining blue - there were 2 areas - one behind the tailgate and one on the front of the car. So, first things first - strip down the front of the car - which I managed to do without breaking any of the tiny plastic clips that hold the grill in Next off - rub down and mask up Then the first coat of primer While the primer was drying on the front - I eradicated the blue behind the tailgate Then it was time to start looking at some of the side panels A brutal rub down with some 40 grit paper to remove the rust and then - some Kurust for good measure And finally the front had had enough coats of primer Just waiting for the primer to harden properly and the kurust to go off - then it's refurbish the grill and refitting - although I think I will put a new front bumper on as the current one is totally shot to pieces when removed  **UPDATE** It's started raining so no more playing today with the exterior today - will retire to the garage to start making up the boxes for the speakers that will go behind the seats
