Well I`ve sold the Fireblade so that frees up some funds to get this finished. I`ve been waiting to borrow a Rollover jig for ages, but the other chap who had borrowed it keeps forgetting to bring it back up with him..... he needs it but hasnt started the resto on his yet so I was going to whip in first and get mine finished. But I got fed up with waiting / being let down and Ive pushed the button on one of these MAde by Mk2Mania, its self loading and height adjustable and I figure I`ll buy it and finish mine then probably sell it on again ;D Should be here next friday ;D

Does the shell need much work - thought it was surface rust - or is this for further mods

Does the shell need much work - thought it was surface rust - or is this for further mods It needs a few bits sorting, but it also wants stripping, prepping, painting throughout etc and a spit is going to make it a whole lot easier to do all that stuff...... Oh and I might need to do a new Gearbox tunnel and Exhaust tunnel, depending if the six speed fits or not ? Just trying to justify a new portamig at the moment

OK enough needs there to justify - they seem to hold their value fairly well Just trying to justify a new portamig at the moment You don't need to justify a portamig in my opinion - you just have to get it bought

Well actually got some time in at the barn today, With the spit ordered and due to arrive next Friday I needed to get a bit organised. I managed to get a load of stuff tidied away that needed doing and boxes sorted and cleared out, basically Andy had kindly boxed everything up for collection and I just transferred it from the barn in leamington, to a barn in Norfolk ! I needed to go through it all and see what was needed and what could be thrown. After that I did some more measuring and a good dose of looking at it, tried the oil pump on the dummy engine in car (looks like its all good there) and struggled with halfshafts for ages then stopped tickling it It's gone ! There it is after some attention from the hacksaw to get the half shafts out And there it is with the shafts out Now I've just got to design the new bearing retainers that will incorporate the caliper mounts too, with the shafts out I have the option of reducing the track width slightly if needed as well. The easy option would have been to arch it and run 15" wheels, but I want it period, it rides better on 13's and the tyres are half the cost Now to see if I can get 9x13's under standard arches !!

There's just enough room to get 9's under stock arches with an 8" wide tyre, but I am liking 8" with 185/60/13 at the moment which just look right 8" wheels give me the option to run some proper sticky tyres at sensible cost too Nice thing is, I can run 195/50/15 general road tyres to stay at the same rolling radius, and still have sticky 13's for track day use

Well the rollover jig has arrived !! Not even had a chance to unpack it yet but hoping to have a trial fitment on it tomorrow.
I had a chance to start cleaning up the half shafts last weekend and I pressed out the wheel studs at work too. They will get replaced with some longer ARP ones once everything is painted and ready to go back together. Getting them out meant I can try the discs on and finalise the caliper mounting details. I have managed to find 2 wheel bearing kits online so that's a relief, I can get those ordered this week and crack on with removing the old ones and making the caliper mountings up.
I also mounted the dry sump pump on the perpex trial bracket but I'm not entirely convinced ?
Think it might end up on the exhaust side after all ? The plumbing will just be too tight and look really messy if I carry on down this road. I'll grab the engine mount off the dummy motor tomorrow and bring it home.
I'll get some pics up later Cheers Dom

Some pics at last, sorry for the delay !! Half shafts out, degreased but pre clean up and stud removal Pump mounting and masking tape belt run Not entirely convinced by this position so I think it'll have to go exhaust side Dry sump pan showing both scavenge ports and the feed in to internal oil pump Inner wing stripped of paint a bit further ready for repair Engine out again Ready for mounting on this ! So that was last weeks little update..... Tomorrow I'm off to the soda blasters with some engine components as a trial and hopefully get the mountings sorted for the spit Cheers Dom

What's happening at the fabrication place? Just repairs or anything else special?
I love this build!

What's happening at the fabrication place? Just repairs or anything else special? I love this build! Rysz. Basically 2 of the best race fabricators I know are spending a week on it to get the final awkward bits finished, pedal box mountings, rear lower 3/4, back section of cill, front corners of the engine bay, basically just finishing the steelwork that I havent got time to do.... That means the time I have got can be used on prepping and painting components and the shell after blasting, and finishing off the design work on the machined parts etc I will still be adding brackets and stuff but the bulk of the steel work will be completed by those who are far better at it than I am (basically in 2 man weeks they will hammer through what it would take me probably 4 -5 weeks to do....... And I haven't got 4-5 weeks continuous to spend on it) Then I just need IRSM to come up for a weekend with his tube bender and tube notcher and we can get the additional cage bracing done !!!
