Well I guess I'm just another 205 owner on here - seem to be quite a few of us! I'm only the second owner of this one, the previous owner keeping it since new in 1988 on a private plate. He let his son use it, who let it fall into a state of disrepair, so I bought it on ebay for £350, delivered on the back of a trailer - barely rolling. Took me about a month and £700 to get it on the road with an MOT - needed a new exhaust manifold, windscreen, rear brakes. At the same time I decided to add quickshift gear linkages as the originals were on their way out, a complete new braking system including Mintex 1144 pads, tar-ox grooved and vented discs and a Peugeot 406 master cylinder. Also a new cambelt, plugs and leads etc. Since then, I've added: Bilstein front suspension (lowered 25mm) Bit of welding to tidy it up Two new doors New speakers Kenwood tape player (yes, a tape. It's retro!) New gear gaitor Refurbished seats Other interior odds and sods (fire extinguisher, sunroof release etc.) To take it to the 'ring last year, I finally put matching tyres on it - Yokohama A539s all round. Also got some new badges and little stuff like that. In November, having done 165,000 miles on the original engine, it was rolling roaded at 101 bhp. It was all fine for a while then, did a few trackdays, then at a recent action day at Castle Combe, I span it quite spectacularly, and managed to brake the water pump in the process. Time for a new engine then! Sourced a recently rebuilt lump, with a mild cam, polished head and manifolds by Des developments, coupled to some decent injectors, a well set up K&N and slightly larger bore exhaust. At the same time I specified a BE3 clutch, pedal and release (much lighter action) and power steering, so the missus could drive it, and also to make it practical for commuting. The power steering setup has lost none of the feel in my opinion, it just seems less inclined to return to centre (sometimes it was a bit of a wrestle anyway), and perhaps a little skittish over 100 mph. I was due to be taking it to the show this weekend, but don't think I'll be able to make it now. Check out the Retro Car Club stand just in case I do! I'm on the lookout for a mint condition grey steering wheel, and some mint condition phase 1 lights. I like the orange indicators, ok! Next big job is some more front tyres and a brake overhaul before the next trackday, and a rear beam rebuild over the winter.

Yeah, gutted to be missing it. Still, having a big night down at the beach tonight, then saving cash for a trip to the Belgian Grand Prix. Might sneak off to the 'ring for a day while I'm down there too. Have a great weekend everybody.

Wow, scary stuff. I also did a water pump in a 205 GTi by spinning it at a track day! It was an Mi16 though, suprised it wasn't the bottom end that went first cause they are made of tin foil.

Thats a sweet 205 you have there fella Mine is far from the cond of yours but it is my daily driver Well mine is as well, for now. Trying to convince the missus to get rid of the Corsa (it is half hers) as I use the 205 most days to commute since the engine swap. Not sure what to replace it with though. She wants a tax exempt Spridget, I want a track prepped RWD *something*.... MX5? 325i? S12/S13 Silvia/200SX?? Although my dream commuter-mobile is a Peugeot 505 GTI/V6 with full leather, air con etc...

Very very Clean just like they should be I am currently running 206 GTI-180 calipers on mine with a standard 205 MC and as the pads (also Minty 1144's) are wearing the pedal travel is getting longer and longer What Calipers are you running? How does the 406 Master Cylinder compare with the standard one??

Standard calipers, looking to get some Wilwoods when I can afford it. Only really got the 406 MC as the original broke, they had a 406 one in stock and it fitted. It is slightly stronger, and smaller apparently.
Have you topped up the fluid?

another example of sex on wheels, great to have another 1.9er on the boards, yours looks like a beaut, Any interior shots, would love to see the refurbed seats, mine are fairly good but small amount of stiching and bolster wear on the drivers side has had me itching to take it to be re-trimmed, out of interest how much did yours cost?

I just basically created a set of decent seats out of the best of about four sets I got from forums and ebay etc. Restuffed the bolster with the help of my uncle (master leather worker! Well, a dentist...but I digress) and tidied up a few things. Cleaned the upholstery vigourously, leather cleaner on the leather bits. New plastics most places, new gear gaitor and cleaned the carpets. New set of black mats and fire extinguisher installed. I guess in total it probably cost about £200-250, but then you don't count how much it mounts up over the years do you? I'm currently running two passenger seats, which is less than ideal, but works for me. Also need a new steering wheel - seems hard to find a proper phase 1.5 item. Everything I buy off ebay is black when it arrives, despite being assured it is grey! I was thinking as I use it on the track about getting an alcantara covered wheel, and some decent aftermarket seats - in keeping with the red and grey theme, but perhaps a bit better at holding you in, but then Recaros etc. really need harnesses to look decent, which need a rollcage, which destroys all practicality really. If I wanted a two seater sports car I would have bought one - I nearly did, but the 205 having rear seats and a decent sized boot swung it in the end.
I would say at the current point in time, just hold out for a decent seat on ebay/forums/autojumble etc rather than getting yours retrimmed. Far cheaper in the current market.
