Hello everyone. Just found this great forum so I thought I'd post a few pictures of my newly aquired Carlton. I bought this car off ebay to replace a MK2 which was stolen and written off last year. The car had been stood in a dry garage for nine years after the one owner from new passed away. Its done 72k and is completely original. It only needed a master cylinder replacing to MOT it and a days cleaning to remove nine years of crud for it to return to the road. Sunroof, rare on a mk1 Shaded area on bonnet is a shadow - curse word photography! Original mw/lw radio cassette, complete with working electric antenna Interior before cleaning, it's come up like new with unworn seats in mint condition this car dates from a time when an auto gave bragging rights!

Agreed. My car is a phase 2 MK1, made for less than a year , with a MK2 Opel style interior, electric ign and revised mirrors and wheeltrims. It also has all the options available at that time including power steering, auto trans and a sunroof. It came with a full VX service history and all bills and a big box of spares. ;D Mk 1's are rare now, especially in this extra cost Aqua blue metalic colour. Made a 600 mile round trip with a rented trailor after buying it unseen worthwhile.

That brings back memories. My old man had one the same colour back in the late 80s. His was a 2000 auto. Very plush ride if I remember correct. Enjoy the acres of velour - what a great retro find.

My original plan was to modify it, but it's too nice as it is,so it will stay original. This is the 4'th mk1 I've had, this one drives as new, tracking straight as a dye and capable of an easy 80mph cruise. The only thing I dislike is the steering wheel, so whilst I'm in LA next month I'm going to pick up one of these...... I think it will suit the car well.

The mk2 Carlton was in reality a rebadged Opel Record E. same basic bodyshell, different (more boring IMHO) front and rear ends. No more chrome, alas, less character. Heres a pic The Opel Record mk1/2 version has a huge follwing in Germany ,it's popular with modifiers . Heres a few pics Alot have been fitted with the 24v six out of the later Carlton/Senator as below They even made a van

Hi there Colonel. Nice to see your mk2 is coming together. I thought about some BBS E30 rims, but was a bit woried by the offset. they do look nice, though. The new drift machine will be really cool with a V6. They look good sideways, methinks Agree about TC. Lifes too short to read posts on there.

The van was made in RHD and available in the UK during the early 80's. They were too expensive compared to the competition and very few were sold. I haven't seen one for years, probably extinct now.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

What an ace carlton! Love it. I saw a van one when I was on holiday in MOROCCO. Here is a screen dump taken directly from my eyes at the key moment:
