After proving my worth over on the general board retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1182334868Its time to introduce my retro. '78 Mk2 GL 1600 X-Flow 4 speed, Stock as a rock. Given to me by my Grandfather it was his third escort and served him for 15 years of his retirement spent mainly on gambling trips across the border to play the pokies. (The jackpot is in the handle, apparently) Being a former diesel mechanic for black cabs in London before moving down under in 1966 he knew a thing or two and took pretty good care of 'rosie' as she is known. Rosie has worn a roof rack most of the time I have known her, which is why the Resto-Cal and roof rack scene provides me with so much amusement. The original rack was of the wooden slat variety (that could not handle living out on the street after 15 years in a garage) and has been replaced Living in Adelaide means there isn't much of a scene to worry about so I have started experimenting with putting crazy curse word on my rack after being inspired by what I have seen here on RR. Vintage water skis are my favorite;

Hey, nice 'scort! I actually like the skis on there. lovely. Would anyone steal em there? Theres a lot of 'scene' stuff un the UK, but i'd like to think we here at RR have no 'scene' worries. Do what you want is the motto that needs exercising from time to time. have fun. Whats next then?

Ooh I like! My favourite car colour It is quite funny that your car has had a roof rack for most of its life and now its become quite a trendy thing to attatch I like the vintage ski's as an adornment, classy Looks a good honest old girl, have you any plans for it modding wise?

Very nice, I was chatting to a mate about aussie escorts just the other day. He said you guys got a mk2 RS2000 4 Door and Van (complete with front end) but I havent found any pics yet . He also said all aussie escorts were 2 litres but I guess he must have been wrong on that one. Love your car!

There are some Genuine Euro spec RS2000's here in Oz, about 7 or so from memory. There are also other RS2000's that were only single cam but had other RS bits (front, interior etc) Yes, there were also Escort panel vans, mk2 ones I'm not sure of. Not all escorts were 2 litres either, but lots of them had the 2litre engine swap somewhere along the way.

4 door rs2000s are pretty common and not nearly as special as the euro spec. Never seen a slab nose van though. The pride of the Aussie escort van fleet was the Sundowner. Ford's small car response to the Holden Sandman and growing 'vanning' culture of the 70s. Bubble window and graphics as standard, provide your own shag pile carpeting and floor to ceiling velvet interior.

Well it saves you time, money and paint at least. I can't wash my cars with a hose under the current water restrictions, so that explains the dirt. The steels I got 12 rims for $10 (about 4 pounds) with tyres of varying quality. Almost all of which were better than the skin bald rubber on my dartboards. That I didn't bother to paint to hide the non-matching colors. Apologies for the photo quality

That is a NICE ride...... and I do tend to avoid 'scene' items - but the water-ski's look spot on! After the great first post - a ride to match up..... welcome!

Nice car.
That ad is quite funny, chairs tilt forward to give you stretch out room when you're sleeping... Yeah right, in other words we just used doors from another 3 door model as that was convenient :-)

Sold to a guy who was sick of driving a charade while restoring his RS2000. Sad to see it go, but it just wasn't being used. A parting shot, posing with its replacement;
