I really like my new purchase but it did decide to try and overheat 3 miles from home on collection day (23-06-07) which I am going to have to look at. I love the interior It's just so brown, everything including the factory radio stero cassette works too! Dealer plates with little BL roundels on 1335cc of pure twin carb all alloy goodness ;D I think Mr plums said of this car that the engine is so smooth it almost feels injected if he does he was right. It is a bit quiet though, I could be chav and install an induction kit According to the seller this is the only welding it has had, a little patch in the boot by the suspension tower. The car does seem very solid. Plans so far are to - Find out what is wrong with the cooling system
- Give it a mini service, plugs, oil, air filter etc
- Give it a bloody good wash and polish
- Look at the springs with a view to chopping them
- Get some decent rims
- Remove the pinstripes, not very clear in the pics but one side is peeling off anyway so I may as remove both sides
More pics to come later Anyone wanting to photoshop some slammage and cool JDM rims on it are encouraged to do so

That looks so minty, makes me want another 1! What's the front valance like? In the pics it's been painted black, usually to cover scabbynesses. Loving the headlight level adjuster in the centre console, works on fluid btw. Very nice purchase

cool old car please forgive my poor skills but junk the side repeater , stick the petrol filler somewhere else , lose the door locks and then hit it with a geet big stick and.... Or go the whole hog and bin the door handles - perhaps a bit too far ?

nic car, coggers, go to www.digimods.co.uk/tutorials/tutorials.htm for photoshop help, best way to lower a car is to go around the bottom of the car and take i down rather than lifting the wheels and putting a black platform underneath get hose steels banded, de bumper, and smooth away

I have been out to check it today and there is no sign of water in the oil or oil in the water, I topped up the rad and header tank then left of the rad cap and started it up and there were no signs of bubbling
It started fine as normal and did not smoke and revved fine
I think that I have avoided HGF so I am just going to strip the cooling system and probably replace the rad and thermostat.
I have found a site online that can do a rad for £100 inc VAT and next day delivery but I am going to try and get one cheaper but I would like it by next weekend as I want to get driving it again.
I have just checked the front valance undertaker and it seems solid but a mounting/support bracker has broken off on the passenger side. I suppose the paint is to protect from stone chips but it looks a bit silly as the rear has not been painted.
I will have to try and got some paint as a few little areas need a touch up anyway.

I think the rad's in these might be the same as the '80s Honda Civic, you can pick up new rad's for them on eBay for £30 IIRC, not sure about the quality of them though.

Yeah rad is shared with 81-84 1335 civic. If you cut the gearstick down to just above the top of the gaiter and re tap a bit of thread back on you can have a really nice short shift, feels really precise on them. 8ball knob or original one though, alloy gear knob could be seen as a bit chavvy , Wonder what other honda steering wheels fit those columns then?

Or you could go up so you cut a little bit of the picture off at the top. Any way, I think JDM would suit it down to the ground.

I'd suggest just trying to back flush the system first - could well be silted up so drain the coolant, grab a hose and flush it. Then refill and see how it goes. Granted, it could be a waste of coolant but it's cheaper than rad replacement. As for Honda engines, the twin-carb 1400 in my Civic is eerily efficient. Spins so sweetly.

Nice one! Kind of regret turning this in for scrap a few years ago. It is a Honda but they are basicly the same?

^ that one is a civic saloon not an Acclaim, never sold in UK! Looks very similar but I think every external panel is different.

The Acclaim was based on the Ballade Why have a Civic saloon and a Ballade? It's beyond all reason.

Different cars for different markeds? Is that one a Civic or a ballade? I have never noticed the difference in the bodypanels before(acclaim vs civic), but see them now.

The overheating was caused by a faulty eletric fan thermosensor switch meaning that the fan didn't come on. I have won a new one off E-bay for £6.00 but the guy emailed me yesterday saying that if he cannot find it he will have to give me a refund Got some oil, oil filter and plugs today, these will be going on the car as soon as it stops raining Once I have bought some superslim cutting discs as reccomended by Dez I think I am going to have a bash at this spring cutting lark New wheels will have to wait until my finances improve. I am liking the ones in Rmad's photochop
