What a clean Metro you have , just to show my age i worked for Austin Rover and A reg was the year i started As to your suspension plans, its a bit of a no no, the hydrolastic suspension is set to a certain height( seem to remeber 14 1/2 " from wheel centre to arch lip, if you drain some fluid out, it will ground out and not handle as it should. The only hydrolastic units that were lower are the MG turbo ones, but you would need to check to see if they fit. The 1.3 Auto was a sweet little motor when new, and if you stuck you foot to the floor is would rush through the 4 gears in no time, and the only common warrenty problems were oil leaks from the timing chain cover and rear cam followers covers. look after her , they are getting rare now in good condition

Love your Metty, its in a great colour, bet its nice to polish You've done a nice job on those cheesegraters too, they've come up lovely! [I'm getting some original style plates but they are going to cost me £50. What kind of plates are you after? The 'old' typeface ones in black/yellow and black/white? Or the pressed steel type?

Suspension - dunno what Slater King of the Lowering Stick did to his but mine was low when I got it and the ride/handling were appalling. Jacked up, the ride improved no end - although hydragas is no match for bouncy fenland roads.
The pressure is very high as well so don't get in the way of the stream of fluid if you do try lowering it.

Whatever you do don't put your mouth over the hydrolastic valve when letting the pressure out as the fluid tastes revolting and if drunk in sufficient quantities can give you a splitting headache. I have mitigated this risk in the past by emptying the fluid out and replacing it with Lucozade.

The metro power web site has a guide to lowering the metro properly, but beware you need acces to a lathe and if you go too low it can pop the drive shafts out.Retro cars did a tuning guide on the metro a few years ago and i think it was done with that miserable bloke from Avonbar.

You can do it with a hacksaw and file easly. Lathe is not a nesessity at all.
I did mine properly but the main thing is you need a pump! pumps are expensive so make one from a grease gun

A guide would be useful, if you make one then i'd appreciate it if you plonked it up on my forum too. And BTW we've got a new forum and a new site i'll post details once it's finished.

www.metropower.co.uk/portal/default.asp?id=12&mnu=12Thats the Lowering guide. This has all been said before but Definatly don't just let fluid out. You WILL need a pump, someone would lend you one. Possibly ask on MetroPower or a local workshop. De-badge it and fit some phatter tyres. Yokohama A539's are my personal recommendation. The BEST tyre in those sizes. Some lowering, wider tyres and 'cleaning' of the lines of the car (eg. Debadging ) and you'll have a VERY tidy metro.
