I had wanted this since I was a kid! Mk1 built by my dads boss's to circuit race in about '67, '68. Only got used for the 69 and 70 seasons and was partly stripped and parked up. Apparently they refused to sell it cos it was so much time / hassle to deseam. Probably also saved it from being rallycrossed, which Hugh (who I bought it from) was champion at the time. I think it only really came for sale cos they had to move it when the barn roof started to collapse!
Because the shell is rock solid and still has the stickers for the '70 series on it I'm just putting it back together and getting it running for now as is. It will be painted later and when it is the MG Metro lump will be replaced with something more 'proper'. There are still several bits kicking around from the racing days and he did me a blinding deal on some S engine bits ( +60 block, EN40 crank, S rods, cams plus others).
Anyway, some pics;
The tank has a sump cos the last engine was injected. does mean you have to run a side exit exit exhaust though
Free MG metro lump is stock other than some gas flowing and twin SU's for an older look. Gearbox is a std remote shifter from an early Mk3. It's actually the second 'box as the first turned out to be very worn in the diff. And shimmed with bits of Coke can
I'm guessing by the mud that this came out of the rallycrosser
Hard to belive this stuff was just laying in a damp shed. Some of the rods are still wrapped in '73 newspaper!
Also found a Mk1 auto in the local free ads that will proved some missing items and maybe some e Bay fodder.
More pics and updates as and when. Might also be able to post some pics of it racing back in the day if JS can sort it
