I'm sure I remember this truck was on the scene when I had my Mitsi lowrider mini-truck. Wow tho' you are goin for gold with the V8 if it jogs your memory, it appears it was yellow before it was pink, with the same front bumper setup- going by the layers of paint when i gound the last bits of bumper off today anyway ;D

with regards to paint, how about bmw mini pepper white...? mix it up with a smidgen of flatting agent and I reckon it would be the bo-shizznat! rear end...mazda mx-5? a UK IS model is good for around 300 lb/ft apparantly...but could a independent rear work? does it have to be live? *n paint colour ideas evolve daily. I'm liking gloss off white, gloss mid-grey, and satin neon pink at the mo i coud go IRS, but i like the way live axles handle (3-linked though) its more bolt pattern and width issues than anything, but i think a scimitar axle may be the answer to the conundrum. you see, you lot don't know what the answer needs to be yet cos youve not seen all the pieces of the puzzle it will all become clear at the weekend or thereabouts ;D

What about a Sapporo rear end? live axle with discs, 4x114.3 stud pattern and nice and narrow for the fat rims you'll be using for that JDM look I'll have one spare mid july as well

Dez, not wishing to jump in ahead of Stuyizz’s offer but I have a spare Laurel C32 live axle (drums, 4x114.3mm PCD) plus all the struts, rack etc off the same car will be available. It sits on my driveway as a rolling, mostly complete car which I just started removing engine bits from last night. Take it away complete once I’ve removed a few more small bits and it will be cheap… Stuyizz, I can think of a recipient for the ex-Sapporo axle

hmmmm, intersting.
which one is stronger (what motor is each one backing up), and are either of em upgradeable at all? i take it neither would have LSD, and i could do with one... the sapporo, having dics would indicate its fairly high performance?
i was thinking scimitar as theres a few axle ratios available, and jag lsds go in fairly easily. I'm always open to suggestions of better options though.

I can only speak for Laurel - it's what is known as an H190, fairly chunky, also used in Vanette (and maybe other light commercials and big saloons, don't have book with me to check right now). My Laurel has a 2.4 straight-six, more powerful versions were available but I'd need to check what back end they have. The smaller H165 axle is used as an upgrade in Sunnies etc which run Silvia turbo engines, the larger size implies this should be stronger. No LSD commonly available AFAIK. I'll find out what the ratio is.
Good idea on Scimitar, especially as it also has the 114.3mm PCD.

Great project, making me jealous of being pickup-less Thanks for posting those remote locking kits, I think they'll be my next upgrade and damn cheap! Are they really as simple as they say to fit, and they will fit pretty much anything? Cheers

pickups are the way forward the remote locking kits are pretty damn good for the cash, and yeah they're simple/straightforward, and easy to modify to most application. i rate em anyway.

finally got round to hoiking the motor out again today and pulling the sump off. i then spent an hour cleaning it up inside and out, as it was rather mucky. i them sliced 2.5" out of the height at the rear, then added 2.5" at the front to keep it the oil capacity. its now the same depth all the way along, or will be once ive filled the centre section in. this will stop the sump hitting the steering draglink, and give me room to drop the motor down a bit lower so it sits level, which will also improve handling. I'm leaving the middle out til ive modified the oil pickup so its easier to see I'm getting the length right. i think I'm going to baffle it too as it will now be susceptable to oil surge cos of the shape change. before it had a simple plate to stop the oil splashing up the front of the 'hump' and away from the pickup. its all welded on the outside so theres no spatter inside. ive gotta chop this bit up next- i didnt get any further though cos my dog decided to go into labour at about teatime so my work session was cut short!! we also got a new camera today though, so the pics should improve a bit now from the camera phone ones, once ive figured out how it works, these pics were the first point and shoot out of the box.
