Work has now commenced so the story begins.... Got a couple of bits of welding done: (Cant really take the credit, a grown-up is helping me out here, I`m just sort of watching, prodding it, shielding my eyes, putting out fires and making brews). I`ll update this again once its progressing a bit, I wont keep bumping it every time I`ve got a couple of patches on, just wanted to get the thread up.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Got the other (much worse) side pretty much welded up now: The huge hole in the floor is now healed up too. All just needs tidying up and schutzing now, aplologies for the fact that this thread is so far filled with intensely boring pics, the bits that will generate interesting pics should be far easier so the thread should be a bit prettier once all this gas-axing is out of the way.

Welding on the front end and floor is now complete, got a seat in there (one of the Recaros I snapped up a week ago from a top bloke who should be on here but isnt, would help if I remembered to tell him about it, Mk1 cav, Mk2 Astra and Manta A, reckon he`d blend in here well enough, eh? he also did me a nice deal on the replacement wing and chrome bumper you see in the first pic) and got the front valance patched up and back on - time to put up a couple of nice pics of it looking like a car, I`ll put a pic of the newly welded and seam sealed floor tomorrow, for now, check this out!

Excellent effort there Vixmith! I must say, that car looked like a right load of grief in the first pics, now it looks like something worth persevering with. I love these old cav coupes, will probably get myself one at some point.

Busy man! I knew I was right to believe likeing this pic below, new school Manta stencilling looks pretty industrial, and I like the back end without bumpers, I did prefer Kadetts to these but with a little massaging and teh right wheels/'stance' it could look like something out of a cleaned.de picture thread, with thoes rounded ends, and minimalist-ness.

Looks a million times better without the big placca Manta bumper. Why do folk fit those?

Looks a million times better without the big placca Manta bumper. Why do folk fit those? Agreed, this is now starting to look really good! I don't mind the facelift Mantas at all in their own right, but putting them on a car in an old-fashioned colour and with the chrome trim etc just looks odd. If ever I have a Manta B it will be a chrome bumper jobbie, if not a Cavalier.

Cheers fellas, I`m a lot more excited about it myself, now, the bumper does indeed make all the difference, it looks curse word in the first pic by comparison.
As for the standard/modded thing, that will be dictated to a degree by the missing parts that I have no hope of finding! Whatever happens, its getting Recaros (already got them), a carpet that I will be making myself in a fancy fabric that I don't know the design of myself yet, its already on lowering springs don't know if I`ll take it down any further, all depends on how my first foray into lowering goes with the Mazda 323, as far as the engine, don't know, but I reckon its gonna be at least partially non-standard whatever happens.

Looks a million times better without the big placca Manta bumper. Why do folk fit those? it's easier to hide a dodgy front panel than repair it properly? .. looking good with the wing back on oh and i'm sure the german boys do 80mm springs for them - go on you know you want to....
