Very nice. I love an old dolly. They look really good in green and red and that purpley pink colour IMO

The car is surprisingly solid, only a small 5p piece on front chassis leg. It has been stripped down already, I have started preping for paint - decided on a triumph dolomite original colour to paint it in - french blue' its a pale blue. I have painted a bonnet already in gloss black to match the roof. thinking about fitting mk1 golf wheel arch extentions - as a reminder of my former vdub days. more picture coming as the project goes on.

progress so far (two days really) although as my missus will probably tell everyone I don't hang around! front end prepared and first layer of paint on i151.photobucket.com/albums/s132/dave_mk1gti/P8280070.jpgboot lid painted, interior stripped out - still no rust - I'm astonished at how solid the car is. please note painting inside and out just incase I decide to fit a roll cage and remove back seat etc, better to do it now than later - and I'm really anal when it comes to paint jobs. will be removing brown door cards and fitting the black ones from doner dolly. opel manta front seat in forground will be going in I have a matching pair for the front and a sprint rear bench which I may retrim in black leather. - tomorrow night I will be doing a load more prep for the paint. after all a good paint job is 90% prep and 10% spray. will update with more pics as project progesses i151.photobucket.com/albums/s132/dave_mk1gti/P8270069.jpgi151.photobucket.com/albums/s132/dave_mk1gti/ebaywheels.jpg

Don't you want to spray it once you've hacked the bay about to fit the bits and dry fitted everything?

to be honest there is so much room in the engine bay that the new engine will fit without any cutting about its a nice easy intallation, ive measured the doner car and the new engine is shorter and lower than the triumph unit. I'm only giving the engine bay a quickcoat of new paint as the bulkhead is going to be covered with a sheet of stainless (to give it the racing look) and the bottom half is going to be hammerite black to protect from tin worm. I may go back over it once dry fitted though - not too sure at the moment I'm kinda winging it really - let the project evolve as it happens. Ive got 2.5litres of paint to play with so it might end up with a dozen coats.

well I have painted the front end and refitted the drivers door, painted the bonnet gloss black. seems to be going well. the doner car arrived yesterday and other than a 'minature moss forest' in the foot wells seemed really good, sooooo good in fact i had a slot at the local MOT bay and put it through for a laugh, only failed on a rear shock, window wipers and rear pads. so the doner car is about to be used a daily hack - I'd forgotten how fast these things are. it going to be insane in a dolomite - cant wait.

got the car all painted in french blue, doner car sold 4 days after it was MOT'd - so on the look out for another one now thinking starion silvia or 200sx, might even do a rover t16 turbo in it with r380 box, not sure yet?Ihave put the black interior from the other dolly i had with a set of front recaro'sin black vinyl - don't think I will be wearing shorts as they get effing hot!! will add some more photoswhen Iget a chance.

Its been a while (months in fact) but I thought I should update the progress. I have rebuilt the sprint axle and poly bushed it, added all new brake lines, added a couple of bucket seats, replaced the brown interior with a black one. underneath has been cleaned and undersealed, after eventually finding a fistful of rust on the n/s/f jacking point or rather where the jacking point used to be would be more appropriate, luckily I bought a proper mig welder the other week so just got on with it - after 5 days solid welding on the BMW M535i last week this one was a doddle!!! I'm looking for a rover 620 ti doner car to convert the engine to rwd with a LT77 gearbox and sd1 bell housing. currently up on axle stands with a lot of dust over it - probably stay this way for a while whilst I finish of the marathon restoration of my bimmer.
