Brother in-law fancied my vento so I decided to get another MK2 Golf (also have a GTI). One owner since 2006, when it racked up 17k miles, before some guy fired another 24k on it driving from Northern Ireland to Sheffield every week (via ferry obviously). So she now sits at 41k miles or so. 1989 MK2 Golf 1.8 GL, 3 speed auto ;D Few bits of bodywork to do to front arches but thats it...

Keep the rims, they are smart! Lower it a fair bit, stick on a roof rack! It'll look mint.

I'm not sure about them, Id really like the centre & outer covers for them (as per standard) but they're like hens teeth...

First update: Lowered 60/45 on the original wheels, though since these photos were taken I have now put some euro plates on it: Rough side: Clean side: Still some clearance for ramps: Also got a set of wheels sorted... fondmetal 4000's. Just refurbing them at the moment so a few weeks before they'll be on the car C&C welcome

BRILLIANT! Love the stance, however I've just googled Fondmetal 4000's and, erm, well, erm, you did say critisism welcome? To me they look don't look particually special, they just look like an average set of alloys. I absolutely love the look of the stock poverty-spec wheels on that car with the lowered suspension, it makes my brain go "uuurgh, it's so wrong it's right". However, I've been known to be wrong before (back in 1987 I seem to remember) so I'll wait and see what they look like on the car

Just to confuse matters, I think Fondmetal 4000's will look spot on. They're a fairly simple wheel and thats a simple looking car, should go nicely together. I wouldn't mind a set for my 205 GTI either.

Just another quick pic on the poverty rimmage: Well I got the wheels for £40 with tyres, so thought I may aswell... Heres them finished, and I think theyll look pretty good on the car, though I understand where your coming from pal I'm waiting on some longer bolts, the standard ones are about 5mm too short for my liking, and need to be tapered. Tyres are very high profile but I will wear them out before dropping the profile a bit. I'll swap between them and the steelies when it takes my fancy
