now this thing has been round the houses a bit, particularly on RR. I'm at least the 3 person to own it in the last year! matty had it originally, then it went to dave, and i got it off him for basically nothing to do him a favour as he couldnt complete it. its a '71 w115 220. and it has a few 'rust issues' boot floor is nackered, as is the bottoms of the rear 1/4s, some of the rear arches, the rear valance, the door bottoms, the front wings and valance, the front inner wings and the ends of the sills, and the floor at the front of the footwells, all the usual merc rust spots. good job it came with 4 decent doors, some front wings and valance, and a new rear valance and lower rear 1/4s!!! cost its so rusty, the plan is one you usually wouldnt see applied to a merc, but ive wanted to do for a while. i dunno what to call it, kinda street race warrior/drag refugee. the quick plan is- 1. serious diet, loose all interior inc. the dash, all trim, front inner wings, boot floor, fuel tank, bumpers, heating, fresh air system, anything that isnt 100% neccessary. this may mean flipfronting it too, I'm still unsure on that at the mo. 2. slam it. goes without saying really!! ive got some 16" sprinter steels for it to sit on. 3. pull out current boat anchor of a motor and replace with a v8. probably a rover with a lot of nice parts and a manual box, as i happen to have one. something bigger would be nicer, but this thing is very limited budget. 4. race inspired interior- kirkeys, harnesses, flat ally dash, gauges, job done. 5. after ive done that, ile have to change the rear axle, cos they're weak. ive blown em with a stockish 2L!! i will be going for a live axle with some tubbage. 6. i may also 2 door it. its something ive wanted to do for ages, as i don't like the coupes, but i don't like 4 doors either. a 5-6" stretch on the front doors would make it a nice 2 door post.

a pic of my boot floor and my drive. yeah its a bit knackered!! lower rear 1/4s and valance corners. they're not there either. more rust. and a bit more for good measure. really nice mint condition black interior. shame I'm using none of it!! seat will go into my other stacklight though. stock 2.2L motor with manual box. it may stay in til the rest of the car is done then get swopped. they're slow with clunky gearboxs though. the interior is now fully stripped out, bumpers off, and ive started cutting the rot out. the passenger side front inner wing was made of bear can thick steel and bathroom sealant!! more pics once ive found the camera charger.

Whoa, you got your work cut out there with the rust. I love these mercs, ive added them to the growing list of 'wants'. Is the other one you got a slammed beige-ish one with exhaust exiting the front wheel arch, was at Whitenoise '05?

Excellent! Glad this one is getting a second chance! Your plans for it are wild, love it! I reckon a stripped out racer stacklight will be a pretty darn cool ride, with or without the V8! Good luck with it and keep us posted on the progress!

Thought you said it was rusty? I'll have to get some pics of my Starlet next time it's being worked on, it's loads worse than that by the looks of it. Very nice motor though..

so, my scrap mans coming next week and i thought id give him a bit extra to cart off, as well as removing the interior to pack it away. if it doubt....... the ex-boot will have a periteter frame out of about 1" box with a large X in between to keep some strength back there. fuel tank (or fuel cell depending on budget) will go on the remaining floor above the diff along with the battery as its in front of the rear X member in case i get rear ended, and itll have a scatter shield under it. bumper wont be going back on, and the filler flap hole will be plated over smooth. most of the interior is out. still got to get the final bits of the heating out, the front seats, and i didnt bother stripping the doors cos they're being swopped ofr some with the lower 2" still there. all the sound deadening will be scraped off and the inside painted. dash will be a simple ally panel to mount gauge in, with a little beadroller embellishing. ive got one front inner wing out, but to be honest it didnt take much persuasion!! other one is a bit more solid, and will be out soon, along with the front X-memeber/rad support. i also got a really tidy '92 rover 216 today if anyone whats one cheap!!
