Following the sad departure of my BMW 2002, I had to buy something hatchback'd, fun, retro, easy to get bits for and cheap... Enter - my new Golf GTi  Its been de-GTi'd, ie the big bumpers, trim, arch extensions etc have all been binned and its been fitted with the bumpers and wotnot from a CL. Couple that with these coooooool steelies and you can leave it places and the d!ckheads walk straight past. Magic!  As you can see, the stick has been well and truly deployed (courtesy of some proper lowering springs and uprated dampers) so it has the stance in bucket loads. BUT it still goes over speed humps (very useful in Northampton) and corners like superglue has been applied to the rails. I am one happy bunny - but what made me happiest of all was the price. With MOT til October and 6 weeks rent on the screen... £300! SWEEET  |

Not being funny, but are you sure its a GTI? Apart from the lack of big bumpers, the side trim is wrong, as are the rear lights, exhaust should be a twin, front grill should also be a twin, glass should be tinted, rear tailgate spoiler and black window surround trim missing....lot of work to make a J plate GTi look like a CL!!!
Any pics of the engine and interior?

Aha but it Does have GTI wheels, the boot plinth colour coded (unique to big bumper models) and a 16v GTI beesting radio aerial (only valvers had this although its a common mod). Nice sleeper if it is a valver! Why so cheap though? Someone doing that work would know its a 16V GTI so worth £1.5k in good nick..... |

I noticed the colour-coded plinth and the bee sting too  Can't see a bung on the wing either. Only kidding ;D Its certainly a mixed bunch, with late-spec steels but an early grill (sought after with the chrome-like trim and different, smaller slats). It also has the larger cut out in the rear valence for a twin exhaust..... Subtle looking car whatever though. |

Deffo GTi... Vin no & engine number correct! Its an 8v.
There are a few giveaways to the spods...
1) Big cut out for the rear silencer (changed for single outlet)
2) MFA
3) Tinted glass (twas a bright day when pics were taken)
4) Metallic black paint
And yes it has been cross-pollenated with the early single light grille (CL), the small bumpers (CL) etc etc. Did I mention the Rider interior thats been fitted too....
Its very discreet - and exactly what I wanted. A late GTi (power steering) that you can leave places without the Friday-night d!ck heads attacking it.
Oh - and it flies.
Why was it cheap? Dunno - its got a few scrapes and scratches plus a bit of grot by the pass rear light. Nowt that can't be sorted, though.
