Here it is, finally got pictures up of it. Bought it off of eBay last week for £200 and after a sketchy start i've fallen in love with my Saff. Its got 107,000 on the clock but from the outside you'd think it had only just left the showroom, bar the odd scratch here and there. There isn't a spec of rust on the thing. Plans for it are nothing too extreme for now, just a whack with the stick and some nice wheels then maybe some performance goodies. The 1.8 feels really powerful to me right now, but I know i'll want more soon. So what do you think? Photochops are always appreciated as are any ideas. More pictures if anyone wants them Cheers.

Looks in good condition, considering the mileage. Very nice.

Looks as clean as the description anyway, have you got the mileage issue sorted out yet?

hey, that looks REALLY straight. Nifty colour too - unusual. Bosh on some decent r1mZ and batter it with the stick AND THE GANG'S ALL THERE! Reckon some nice, slightly dished 5-spoke affairs in 16/17in could work REALLY well.

Does look straight, maybe its been garaged and driven carefully, definately a steal at that price , and yeah for goodness sakes keep those pictures coming! People slate the 1.8 CVH but if its running fine, looked after, its decent enough as a daily, i'm always confident cruising in the fast lane - 1. cos noone knows what sierra it is and 2 cos it can keep up no prob. only the fast lane rocketers are an issue Nice one dude, After recently tidying bodywork on mine, id definately suggest checking the arches, the rear of the sills etc, underneath and apply some rust treat/paint/waxoyl. You will need to ideally take the plastic wheel arch protectors out but its a quick thing to do to save a load of heart ach later doen the line. HTH

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Quality old cruiser! If it was me i'd go for a nice clean and simple approach- probably get rid of the side trim, maybe replace the red stripe on the bumpers with a black one, de-lock, de-badge etc etc. Maybe even a cosworth front bumper but painted matt black to match the rear and make it look close to standard but lower?!? And a good set of hoops under the arches like Pog said. Have fun!

Like Reanimation says, get those arch liners out and Waxoyl it ASAP. Wish I'd got pics of what my non-rustproofed Ghia turned into (tidy on the outside, but only the shiny top coat was holding the sills together!)
Anyway, looks great. Plenty of wheel choice to keep you thinking for a while, so out with the stick and decide what rims you need!
17" RS 7-spokes would be a winner - still looking nice and factory - although wiiiide dished 14s are worth a thought IMHO...
Funnily enough my bro (SpaceKadett) had an absolutely identical Sapphire back in 2001/2002, I think that was J*** GPN too. Spooky!

Not sure what rims to go for yet. But a decent drop will defenately be on the cards. Looks like the arch liners will be my first job then. Quite like the idea of Matt Black cossie bumpers too.

Mileage is nowt to worry about if it's been looked after as well under the bonnet as it obviously has inside and out- one of my mates had an 1800 Saff that was still going strong when he sold it with 170k on it. That's a clean car...and I like the colour

Sapphire is just what Ford called the salloon version of the Sierra. I'm really happy with the power, stuck with a new shape 3-Series the other night who was driving like a twonk in front of me.

Could be a faulty float? And these black bumpered Sapphires always remind me of the police cars in the first Robocop film!!

[geek alert] Fuel guage is usually the float / sender unit as tetsujin says, never actually got round to changing one though so I can't advise.
Incidentally SpaceKadett's identical Sierra was (I think) J497 GPN. Often find Sierras registered in large batches of identical cars, my Sapphire is one out of a batch of about twenty!

I may be way off but does teh float thing not sit on the top of the tank? meaning tank off. GF's dads estates guage never worked. failing fixing it, fill the tank, zero the tripometer and count up to 300, and fill again (fill before if you don't like gambling)!!! ;D

Gonna wait until I'm paid and then tackle these little jobs. Will get those arch linings out then see what I can do with the fuel gauge.
Jonny- How strange, where would that make mine registered then?
