Ive not been on here for a while because the mk6 escort I had was soooo boring it kind of destroyed my interest in cars. Thankfully I hit a kerb whilst avoiding a rabbit, bending the steering rack, then the hydrolic tappit on number 2 seized the day before the mot was due, so I sold it on just too get it out of my life! The car ive got now is one ive had my eye on for a while but never thought id get it, but since the previous owners brother lost his licence and GAVE him a very nice merc, he sold me this for a pittence ;D now my interest in cars is fully restored, and wet roads are FUN!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thats brilliant, looks like a nice example! Mk5/6/7 Escorts are horribly dull, absolutely awful cars, definately better off without it!

it most certainly is clean - 51000 miles and only a bit of cosmetic work to do, the rear arch is a bit scabby on the passenger side and thas the worst bit, but nothing that cant be fixed. Immediate plans are for some better tyres on some nice alloys and to clean the rest of it up too standard spec - that is of course while the 3.0L lump is being built ;D. Its weak point is the 4speed box, but that will be sorted out with the 5speed that will go in with the 3.0L. The rest of it is real pie-in-the-sky stuff, if i find it too expensive too run then ill just do the stuff that needs doing to make it mint, then sell it on, but i realy hope i don't have too sellit, its such a peach too drive!

Nice one Slater! Are those the wheels on your mini? Looks top notch with those wheels on it, but ive never realy gone for the boso look, i just think it looks silly on most cars, but with a bit of work it might just work on the granny imo. Ive been offered a set of 18in AMG polished alloys off some 80s merc coupe, not sure of the model number? I know they fit, and would no doubt look curse word-hot, but ive been told the car will end up feeling like a shed so I'm probably going to go for a set of late vauxhall Omega wheels, ill se if i can find a pic, they're fitted to quite afew bangers and realy do look good on them. MORE PHOTOSHOPS WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

As much as i like the idea it does take alot away from the cars charecter. This one is going to be a sleeper. The first bit of work ill be doing will be to sort out any rust, thats the rear arch and bonnet (as luck would have it a mate of mine has got a rust free bonnet sitting on one hes got waiting for racing, only problem is its light metalic blue and its all gone crazed in the laquer. With the amount of rotton granadas i know sitting about waiting to be raced, i can see that getting spares for this is going to be VERY easy indeed 8)

Nice result getting that for a pittance, looks great on steelies. Must defend the Escort to a degree, the newer top spec ones are nice daily drivers and the early base model (flat front, no oval grilles or frog mouths) has almost died out, probably rarer than a Mk4 so must be worth saving now.

Agreed.....SWMBO had a frogmouth 1.6LX, in that Aubergine pearl, looked great when clean and was an excellent car. Even the Mk4's like mine are getting scarce now, who would have believed it! Sleeper idea for the Granny's a winner, I prefer the Mk2 to the Mk1. :-)

Thanks for the comments people! I'm addicted to it, theres no two ways about! Rear wheel drive is so much fun! this is the first rwd car ive owned and its taken a bit of getting used too so I'm not going too give it some untill ive been on a nice open runway to just rag it about and get used too it, i think i know rear wheel drive but i don't want too find out that i don't know, especialy if theres trees and stuff about. The sleeper look has taken a step forward. Ive been offered a set of RS 7 spokes off a mk3 granada, not sure if they are 15s or 17s (should have asked realy) but I'm sure theyll look the nuts anyway. The oiginal wheels will be referbed and ill keep them just incase i need them, the rest of the car will be left pretty much standard, just cleand up, might debadge it and take off the silly black bump stripe but thats about it. Famous last words, it will probably end up being a fire breathing monster if i let my mate do to it with the 3L lump hes got. lol

looks a tidy motor
theres not many 2.3 L's left - and manual too
are those steelies metric (TRX) tyres?

how do you type a long whistle noise?? anyway, imagine it, then i'd say "now thats a car!!"

no, they're 14s, and the tyres are pants! perfectly good condition, just pants.
I'm startng too think they're aint many 2.3 Ls left because i cant remember the last time i saw a granada in good condition that wasnt a Ghia, and ive seen afew!
Not sure what too do with the inside, might just keep it standard and clean it up, replace thinngs like the inner door handles that are worn, i know for a fact that this is a 100% genuine 51000 mile car but how on eart DID the handles get so worn!?! Or might go for a black or grey recaro trim set. Its a perfectly comfortable luxo-barge at the moment so it is very tempting too leave it standard, and if i keep the old wheels and just lower it a bit it might get used as a extra in tv and ............... now theres an idea!!
as well as the wheels I'm also hopfully picking up a rot free bonnet and whatever else i fancy off a manky Mk2 2.8 on saturday from another address, got too drive a fair way too get it so that will be a nice run for it too see how much fuel it uses, and after the last few days too and from work it hasnt actualy been that bad suprisingly.
I knew it would get some looks but ive been used too that because of my past cars (some looked good, others looked like wrecks but they were always getting attention) but the difference with this one is the looks of utter confusion! people look at it and ......... well, i don't know WHAT goes through their mind! People used to laugh at the maxi and in a way that was the whole idea, i didnt plan too confuse people with this one! I got pulled over on friday night by the cops because there was no insurance showing, i explained that id only just bought the car that morning and id also paid for the insuranse so they said maybe it hasnt updated on their system and gave me a producer and sent me on my way. Anyway, THEY didnt know what it was! Aparently for a time my car was on their system as MAKE:Big, MODEL:Red lol
