its all a load of curse word. spiogot rights are not needed on taper or radius seat bolts, its as simple as that.

Well, my wheels haven't fallen off, but I do actually have some spigot rings on order, and have done for ages now... How many aftermarket wheels don't fit the centre bore on the hub of the cars they are fitted too? How many wheels do you see rolling down the street? I ran the wheels on my nova for over a year before I even knew spigot rings existed. Those wheels never fell off either  I know what you're saying pimpdriver, but I don't think they are as required as you make out. I don't recall ever seeing spigot rings on an early (wide 5) volkswagen (mainly because it would be impossible on the factory fitted steels), or any other wide stud pattern wheels... |

Are you seriously running around without spigot rings and bolts that you're not too sure whether they're the right ones? Spigot rings are needed for a reason, to support the wheel on the hub, rather than put all the load onto the bolts. I have never had spigot rings on any of my cars, ever. |

I didn't have any on the Wellers fitted to my old red MK1 Jetta, the (correct tapered) bolts were just done up VERY tight, and its still like that as far as i'm aware; however, i did fit the 15inch Wellers i bought off pimpdriver to my Vento and one nearly came off on the motorway less than 5 miles afterwards, but then they were fitted with radius bolts instead of the correct tapered ones  I had some spigot rings machined up to be on the safe side  |

Not got any bolts as yet so the wheels are just sat there doing nothing while i decide if i'm going to use them or not. Might go to the scrappy and get a set of BMW bolts which are apparently tapered and see if they do the trick.

having seen the way you changed your front suspension i had a look at mine today took the whole leg off as you did...
how do you get the shock out of the leg?
it looks like the top cap unscrews to let it slide out is there a 'tool' to do this? :S
and no i have never done this before, going ok so far.. know anywhere that sells the driveshafts for these too?? one is hanging!!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...
Yeahthe top cap unscrews... I used some mofo-ing huge grips.....It's very tight. The shock insert just *slips* out then....
As for a driveshaft. Which side? I'm actually breaking this car now, as I've bought a better, non rotton one ;D

Its all done now was a pain in the  , sits slightly higher now but drives a million times better. I heard heard you were breaking one, i'm after a n/s driveshaft. was also after a n/s foglight, fuel filler filler pipe and cap. don't spose your anywhere near hampshire lol oh that was the Three Counties Showground, where the british volkswagon festival was being held this year. |

Sorry I wasn't about to talk to, I had moved the car to there first thing in the morning whilst we set up the stand, then moved it back up next to the stand a bit later.
As for the bits, I'm not anywhere near hampshire, but I could probably get the bits abit closer to you (Newbury) some time soon, depending on how my job interview went yesterday ;D
Is it actually your driveshaft that's bust, or just the CVs? I think my N/S one has one not quite perfect CV joint on it...
The other bits shouldn't be a problem...

the joints are both shot so was changing them and noticed the ds was hanging unfortunatly. i have added you to msn, if you use that if not i'll mail you on there keep the forum all tidy. lets see the new ride then fella |

Well This car is no longer on the road. The MOT ran out, and I got fed up of putting money into an essentially curse word car. The sunroof leaked like a biatch, it was pretty rotton, it ran warm and it was a poo colour.
I'm pulling it to bits for spares for my new purchase...
An '87 Passat GLS5 Estate in Polar Silver. I'll start a readers rides thread on it shortly. It's a hell of a lot nicer than this one.
The steels are *provisionally* sold, and i'll be going for a slightly cleaner more modern look with the new one.
